Mavic Pro Tablet Holder – Easier Control Of Your Drone

Using a tablet or large phone to control your Mavic Pro is a game changer!

You see far more of what the drone is seeing which means you can control it far easier. And as the drone gets further away (out of sight) this becomes super important. After all, you don't want to crash, right?

And although the Mavic Pro controller can handle a small tablet or large phone, it's a bit of a "stretch" to get it in, and not that easy to use when it is (the screen is down by your stomach).

So, what do you do?  Buy yourself a Mavic Pro Tablet Holder of course :>

What Do Tablet Holders Do?

Like a lot of accessories for the Mavic Pro, the tablet holder is pretty simple. (But once you have it, you wonder how you ever lived without it.)

It clips into the Mavic Pro controller where the phone normally goes, and then provides a variable size holder above the controller for your phone or tablet.

The jaws of the holder are adjustable, so you can normally fit in almost any tablet or phone.

It sits way higher so you can get a better view (without looking at your stomach, and wishing you had not had that 7th beer).

And best of all, you can adjust the angle so it does not get in the way of you or the controls.

The Best Tablet Holder For Your Mavic Pro

Tablet holders are pretty simple, but they are not all made equally.

So, in this review I am going to cover a few of the best. The ones that meet the following criteria:

  • Well built (you don't want junk, right?)
  • Sturdy (holds the tablet firmly and stays in place)
  • Easy to adjust (so you get the best view of your screen)

SKYREAT Upgraded Dji Mavic Pro Spark Tablet Holder

The guys at Skyreat have created one of the best tablet holders on the market, which is why they are first on the list

Their tablet holder ticks all the boxes.

All the materials are made with super solid plastic which also means it's light at 6.6oz or 188g.

It fits anything from a phone to a tablet (ipad air 2 for example).

The base plate slides easily into the phone holder of the controller. The main arm (from the base plate to the tablet holder) can be pivoted back and forth to bring the tablet to the ideal position.

There is a ball joint behind the tablet clamp to then make the adjustment of the tablet itself.

As you can see in the second image, the tablet clamp is padded with silicon to protect your device and keep it firmly in place.

This is spring-loaded with a super strong spring that won't drop your tablet in a hurry.

The ball-joint on the back can move 360 degrees, which means you can align your tablet in whichever way you want (horizontal like this image, or vertical like the above image).

This clamp can also extend another inch and a half if you want the tablet higher. But, just keep in mind that this is the "weak point" of the holder. So, extending this will probably mean a less firm hold on the tablet. (in most cases it won't be necessary anyway).

The only other downside of such a tablet holder is that it "can" block the view of the controller if you have it positioned towards the back (which I think is the most obvious and balanced spot for it). However, as you probably know from using your Mavic, the DJI Pro App has all the relevant info on it anyway, so not a big deal.

You can see a full assembly and more details of the Skyreat tablet holder in the video below.

SKYREAT Spark Aluminum-Alloy Tablet Holder

Skyreat also have a metal tablet holder that is a little more expensive but stronger and perhaps a little more sturdy than the one above.

So, for those worried about the strength and life of the plastic model this might be a better choice.

Note: The base plate is metal, and the clamp is a strong plastic.

Apart from the stronger materials, this tablet holder also comes with a nice carry bag and is easy to disassemble and pack away for transport.

The plate fits into the clamp and the vertical arm also folds away. So from that perspective, the design and portability is spot on!

Skyreat Mavic Pro Tablet Holder Positions

Skyreat Mavic Pro Tablet Holder Positions

The overall position is great, but this tablet holder is not quite as flexible as the other model above.

As you can see in the image here, a ball joint allows the tablet clamp to rotate 360 degrees and also tilt up to 45 degrees. So you can adjust it alot.

But, it does not have the tilting mechamism on the base. So, you can't move the tablet closer to you (or further away).

That means you are stuck with the position shown. Which by the way, 100% blocks the view of the controller. (To see it, you have to tilt the controller up / tablet towards you). However, as I said earlier, this is rarely an issue.

Any tablet holder is a compromise because the Mavic Pro was not designed with one in mind. So, either of these two holders is the way to go.

Other Landing Gear Options?

There are nearly a dozen or so copy cat Mavic Pro tablet holders on Amazon, but none that I have found are any different to the two reviewed above.

Final Thoughts

In the end, it comes down to these two options and how adjustable vs sturdy you want it to be.

The price varies a little, but for an accessory, both are under $30, so pretty reasonable.

I chose the metal Skyreat tablet mount as I am never going to adjust my tablet towards my body (you can't see the screen there anyway). And I love the flat packing and bag it comes in (great for the traveler like me :>).
