If you don’t want to take any chances with the luggage set you are buying, your best bet is to go with an established brand like American Tourister. With Samsonite as their parent company, their luggage rarely disappoints and is always of great quality.
But it’s not as good as Samsonite – American Tourister is an entry level brand, for people who can’t afford to spend several hundred dollars on a single piece of luggage. So, don’t expect too much for about $50 per bag.
The three pieces of softside luggage in this spinner luggage set are all made from sturdy polyester, with polyester lining on the inside. The bags all have single spinner wheels, as well as a double-barrel wheel handle for effortless manoeuvring. Unfortunately, the wheel handle is not height-adjustable, so there’s no guarantee it will fit you perfectly.
One downside of these suitcases is their weight – they are quite heavy, especially compared to the Travelpro set you’ll see next. Keep that in mind if you tend to pack heavy items in your luggage.
All three suitcases have an expandable capacity, which is a big plus. Their interior is exactly the same – it features a spacious packing compartment with tie-down straps and a large zippered pocket on the top cover.
And you get two zippered exterior pockets, for easy organization of any smaller items you like having easy access to. The larger front compartment is actually just the right size to fit a laptop, but I would not recommend putting one inside the checked bags.
Think about the baggage handlers – there’s a really good chance your suitcase will land laptop first on the floor, and I doubt that’s something you want to deal with on your trip.
Otherwise, this is one of the better luggage sets for anyone on a budget.
This American Tourister spinner luggage set is probably the best value for money you’re going to find anywhere. You get five pieces of luggage for less than $130, which comes down to about $25 per suitcase. Yes, that’s $25 for a 28” spinner! Crazy, I know.
What’s even crazier is that these bags are actually really good quality. I wouldn’t recommend using them as checked bags, but they’re great as carry-ons, and they’re perfect for road trips.
So, you get a 19” carry-on, a 24” medium checked bag, a 28” large checked bag, an underseat tote, and a garment bag in this set. All of the bags are softshell and made from 600D polyester, and all of them except the garment sleeve have reinforced corners for extra durability.
The suitcases are pretty standard softshells; they have a single packing compartment with internal tie-down straps and a large zippered pocket on the top cover. Their capacities are expandable, and they feature two external pockets that help with organization.
On top of all that, all three bags are equipped with single spinner wheels and a retractable wheel handle for easy maneuverability.
The underseat bag has a luggage strap in the back, which lets you mount it on top of a suitcase for easy mobility at the airport.
It has a spacious main compartment, a well an external pocket for all items you want to have easy access to. And then there’s the garment bag, which has room for four different hangers inside, as well an external zippered pocket. Great for business travel.
If you’re looking for value, you’ve found it. With five pieces of luggage, this set is all you need if you’re going on a cross-country road trip or if you’re looking to equip your entire family with great luggage. And all of that for less than $130! That’s why we consider this to be one of the best luggage sets around.
If you’re looking for the ultimate carry set, I think you will love this one. It includes a hardside carry-on suitcase and a smaller underseat bag – perfect for shorter trips, and even longer if you pack light.
The exterior of the suitcase is made from durable ABS plastic. The shell is textured, which improves its overall scratch resistance, meaning that your luggage will look brand new even after several trips. There are no corner reinforcements on the suitcase, so the overall impact resistance and sturdiness of the luggage aren’t the best.
But that shouldn’t really be a problem – this is carry-on luggage, and you don’t have to worry about baggage handlers throwing it around. You’ll be the only one handling your bag, and unless you act like an animal and use it as a scooter around the airport, it should be fine.
The suitcase has single spinner wheels, a very sturdy wheel handle, top and side grab handles, and expandable capacity. Its interior consists of two packing compartments; the top one features a full panel zippered divider, while the bottom one has elastic cross straps and a small zippered pocket.
All of that’s cool, but let me tell you about my favorite feature of this suitcase – there’s a freaking cup holder in the back! Yes, there’s a plastic little insert that can hold your giant coffee mug in the morning, and it can also work as a phone stand or even a phone charger.
I don’t know about you, but when I have to be outside at 6 AM to travel somewhere, I don’t leave the house without a cup of coffee in my hand. This means I only have one hand to deal with my suitcase, tote bag, and regular purse – this feature is an absolute lifesaver!
Oh, and the spinner set also includes an underseat tote that has a luggage strap in the bag, so you can mount it on top of the carry-on suitcase. The tote is made from durable polyester, and it has a spacious main compartment and one smaller external pocket.
Travelpro is a really great brand, and their luggage sets are usually not cheap.
This luggage set is a great way to pick up two excellent suitcases and save some money in the process. This spinner set features two softshell suitcases, a carry-on, and a medium-sized checked bag. All great additions for any upcoming travel you have planned.
Both suitcases have the exact same features and are made from the same abrasion and stain-resistant polyester. The softside luggage features single spinner wheels for easy maneuverability, as well as a height-adjustable wheel handle with a rubber grip. Those two features mean that it will be very easy to get around with these bags, especially since you don’t have to tilt them to get the wheels rolling.
The carry-on and the checked bag are exactly the same on the inside. They have a fully lined packing compartment, with tie-down straps, expandable capacity, and a single mesh pocket.
The cover of the suitcase has a smaller zippered compartment on it, which can work as a suiter section, or just for items you want to keep separate from the rest of your clothes.
The suitcases have a single zippered compartment on the outside, which is great for any last-minute items you remember to pack.
However, they don’t have a smaller zippered pocket, which is pretty much the only downside. I personally love those pockets, since they let me keep my passport and boarding pass handy at all times.
The Travelpro luggage set is a little pricey, but it is great value for the money since you are getting two premium suitcases. Yes, you can get 5-piece luggage set for less money than these two bags, but the quality is usually more important than quantity.
The Samsonite Winfield 2 suitcases are some of the most popular Samsonites ever made. They’re excellent hardside suitcases, and they are actually quite affordable. And you can get a set of all three Winfield 2 suitcases, and actually save some money – a deal you shouldn’t skip if you’re looking to get a luggage set that will last you for years.
All of these suitcases are made from pure polycarbonate, which is the premium material for hardside luggage. It bends upon impact, as opposed to ABS plastic which simply breaks. That means that the suitcases have excellent impact resistance and that they can handle being thrown around the airport by baggage handlers.
The spinner luggage set includes three suitcases – a carry-on, a 24” medium hardside spinner, and a 28” large checked bag. Those are pretty standard sizes, so no surprises there.
All three suitcases feature single spinner wheels, top and side grab handles, a sturdy wheel handle, and a TSA-friendly lock.
Their interiors consist of two packing compartments; the top one has a full panel zippered divider with a couple of pockets on it, while the bottom one features tie-down straps to keep your clothes in place.
The two checked suitcases also have an expandable capacity, a feature that is lacking on the carry-on. But that’s fine – if you expanded the suitcase it likely wouldn’t be accepted as a carry-on, so Samsonite is just trying to keep you from being forced to check your bag, by denying you this convenient feature.
Make no mistake, the Samsonite Winfield 2 luggage set is quite pricey, but it is worth every penny.
These are amazing suitcases that are quite affordable on their own, especially for Samsonite. So, paying a little over $115 for each suitcase that’s made from pure polycarbonate is not a bad deal at all, especially considering just how long these will last you if you travel a lot.
If you want a more affordable option, check out the Samsonite Omni luggage sets.
Looking for an affordable set of hardshell suitcases? The Coolife luggage set is easily one of your best options. The suitcases are made from ABS plastic, but they feature reinforced corners on all sides, for excellent impact resistance. The set includes a 20” carry-on, and 24” and 28” hardside spinners.
And all three suitcases have the same features, from the sturdy exterior to the fully lined interior. They are equipped with double spinner wheels and a retractable wheel handle for easy manoeuvrability.
I actually love the double spinner wheels – they feel more stable than single spinner wheels, and they are a bit more durable.
All of the luggage in this set features a TSA lock, as well as top and side grab handles. The lock is there for your peace of mind, while the grab handles make picking up the suitcases very easy. Plus, the grab handles are very sturdy and it’s pretty much impossible to rip them off the luggage.
The bags open up clamshell-style, to reveal two spacious packing compartments. The top compartment has a full panel zippered divider, while the bottom compartment features elastic cross-straps that will keep all your belongings in place.
So far so good, right? Well, let’s talk about the downside – the Coolife suitcases don’t have any zippered pockets inside, which makes organization pretty much impossible.
That’s a pretty big issue, especially if you’re not used to using packing cubes and similar organizers while you’re packing.
Another downside is that only the 28” spinner luggage has expandable capacity. I would have loved to see that feature on the other two suitcases as well, but as Mick Jagger once said – you can’t always get what you want.
If you prefer hardside suitcases but find it hard to give up on the organizational capabilities of a classic softshell, this might just be the 3-piece set for you. With double internal dividers that feature both zippered and slip pockets, the Renegade luggage set is easily one of our favorite spinner sets.
These hardshell suitcases are made from ABS plastic, with reinforced corners for improved impact resistance. Even though they are not quite as durable as polycarbonate suitcases, they should hold up pretty well – especially for the price.
All three suitcases are equipped with double spinner wheels and a retractable wheel handle. The handle only locks in extended and stored positions, meaning that it is not height adjustable. It’s a small downside, but definitely not reason enough to skip this awesome luggage set.
And the Renegade suitcases all have top, side, and bottom grab handles, so it’s super easy to pick up your suitcase. This is especially useful for the smallest suitcase, assuming you decide to use it as a carry-on – placing it in the overhead bin is a lot easier when you have a proper grab handle at the bottom of the bag.
These suitcases open up clamshell-style, just like you’d expect from a classic hardshell. The top compartment has a zippered divider which covers it entirely, while the bottom compartment has a floating divider.
There are three zippered pockets on the two dividers, as well as a spacious slip pocket that’s perfect for your socks or undies.
All of the luggage in this 3-piece set has an expandable capacity, so you can do some shopping on your trip, and still have enough space in your suitcase for everything. Just keep in mind that that expands the suitcase an extra 2”, and that the smallest one might not be accepted as a carry-on if you leave the main compartment expanded.
Oh, and if you don’t like the look of the metallic color pictured here, never fear! This luggage set comes in a range of colors – from black, gray, and blue, to pink, red and more.
As you already know, Samsonite makes some of the best luggage. So, if you don’t want to take any chances, grab a Samsonite spinner luggage set. Their suitcases are always premium quality, and you can never go wrong with a Samsonite.
The only downside is that their sets are not really budget-friendly; yes, you’re saving money when you buy the set instead of three individual suitcases, but you’re still spending several hundred dollars.
But if you want top-of-the-line luggage, that’s the price you have to pay. And that’s exactly what the softshell LTE spinners are – with a durable nylon exterior, these suitcases are tear, abrasion, and water-resistant. Plus, they have corner guards, for improved impact resistance.
The Samsonite luggage features double spinner wheels for effortless maneuvering, as well as a sturdy retractable wheel handle. However, be gentle with the wheels – some travelers had issues with them falling off, so just be extra careful about wheeling your suitcase on uneven surfaces.
This luggage has a single packing compartment with expandable capacity. It is very spacious, with internal tie-down straps and a total of four pockets.
There’s also an extra compartment on the cover of the suitcase, which works really well as a suiter section. And you get a removable Wetpak – waterproof zippered exterior pockets designed to hold any wet items.
And there are two external compartments that are great for any items you remember last-minute. One of those compartments is very small, and the perfect size to hold your passport and boarding pass.
Do you want a luggage set that is only for suitcases or one that comes with a smaller under-seat bag as well? Suitcase sets are a great way to pick up several bags for the price of one Samsonite, but they’re not always great value for money. Are you really going to use all three suitcases you get in that set, or are you just getting because it’s such a good deal?
If you’re used to traveling with one suitcase and one smaller bag, maybe you’re better off picking up a set that includes more than one luggage type. Especially if you frequently travel for business, or often travel alone – you’ll get a lot more use from an underseat bag and a medium checked suitcase than from a 4-piece suitcase set.
On the other hand, if you’re absolutely sure that you will use all of the bags in a particular set, then by all means go for it. I just want you to get your money’s worth, and getting three suitcases when you realistically need just one is like buying a family-sized pizza when you only want a slice.
Sets that include several suitcases are actually great for families – it’s a cheap way to equip all of your family members with luggage for the upcoming vacation.
Another thing to note is that you can always sell off any luggage you think you won’t use and earn back some money!
Some luggage sets I showed you are designed for one traveler, while others have enough luggage pieces for the entire family. So, are you looking for a good carry-on set for yourself or something that you can share with your partner and your kids?
The sets that have four or five luggage pieces are obviously the best value for money. Especially since the ones I showed you here are ridiculously affordable – in the end, it comes down to less than $30 per suitcase, which is absolutely insane.
But don’t buy five pieces of luggage if you only really need two – you’ll wind up not using them, and they will just take up space in your home. A pro tip, in that case, is to either give away the suitcases you aren’t using to your friends and family or just sell them to earn some money back.
Unfortunately, you can’t have both, so you really have to decide whether you want softside or hardside suitcases. I always recommend hardshells for air travel, simply because they are a lot more durable than softshells.
If your main goal is to find a carry-on and a checked bag for your next flight, definitely check out all of the hardside luggage sets first. You will get sturdy and durable bags, which won’t wind up on the luggage carousel looking like a 3-day old pizza.
But if air travel is not your priority, and you just want a decent luggage set, then think about your luggage preferences. Do you prefer to have external pockets, or are you used to using packing cubes to organize your stuff? Is a lock a must for you, or are you okay with not being able to entirely secure the contents of your luggage?
Softshell suitcases are great for organization, and they usually have larger capacities than hardshells. All softshells featured in this review have at least one external compartment, allowing you to have easy access to certain items at all times. However, they rarely have a lock, so they’re not the best option in terms of security.
This is where your personal preferences come into play, so really think about what it is you need (and want) before you buy any of these luggage sets.
Still haven’t decided which of these luggage sets is just right for you? That’s okay – go with one of our top choices, and you won’t have any regrets!
The set that is the best value for money is obviously the American Tourister Wakefield luggage set. It’s hard to compete with five pieces of luggage for less than $150 – if you’re just looking for value, this is definitely the set to buy. You get three standard softside suitcases (a carry-on, a 24” bag, and a 28” bag), and then also a garment bag and an underseat tote.
All of the luggage is made from polyester, and the suitcases have reinforced corners for better impact resistance and improved durability. If you actually need several suitcases, then you definitely can’t go wrong with this set.
Maybe you’re just looking for a good carry-on set? I have to recommend the Wrangler luggage set. You get a good hardshell suitcase and a standard underseat bag, for very little money. It’s a pretty basic suitcase with spinner wheels, a retractable wheel handle, expandable capacity, and a couple of internal pockets.
But it does have one unique feature – a cup holder in the back, which doubles as a phone stand so that you can actually charge your smartphone while you’re running to catch your flight. Honestly, that feature alone sold me on this set.
If you’re looking to get a luggage set that you will be able to use for years to come, I have to recommend the Samsonite Winfield 2 set. It’s one of the priciest luggage sets out of the bunch, but it’s also the best quality.
You get three Winfield 2 suitcases, all of which are made from pure polycarbonate and have spinner wheels and a TSA lock. They’re Samsonites – you know exactly what to expect, and you know that your hard-earned money will be well spent on these awesome hardshells.
And that’s it for our favorite luggage sets. Head over to Amazon to check out the prices of luggage featured here, and see all of the color options that are available.
