    Best Flushing Toilet

    Porta Potti White Thetford Corp

Porta Potti 92306 White Thetford Corp

The Porta Potti is the dream toilet for that one bougie friend you have that is always complaining about doing their business out in the woods. It is sturdy, sleek and it even has a built-in toilet paper holder for the ultimate convenience!

This portable camping toilet from Porta Potti is designed to look identical to the one you’re using at home, for a more comfortable experience. And it has nearly all the features of a proper toilet, including a flushing system that can get you more than 50 flushes on a single fill – perfect for large groups! The only difference is that this one runs on batteries, so make sure you have 6 AA batteries if you want to flush.

Additionally, this toilet has a tank level indicator, which lets you know just how much freshwater is left in the toilet. There’s also an indicator for the tank, so you will know exactly when you should empty it.

The tank of the Porta Potty has a pour-out snout that lets you empty it easily and without making a mess in only a few seconds. There is also a sanitary cap for the snout, which gives you maximum sewage control. It is leakproof, so you don’t have to worry about waste spilling anywhere.

Other features of the Porta Potti include a convenient carry handle and a hold-down kit that lets you secure the toilet in place. But all of those fancy features are going to cost you since this toilet comes in at a little over $250.

The downside of the Porta Potti is obvious – it’s a big and bulky toilet that weighs nearly 14 lbs when empty.

It’s a good option if you usually camp in places that are close to parking lots and you don’t have to do a lot of walking to reach them. But if you prefer hiking until you find the perfect spot to spend the night under the stars, this is probably not the best option for you.

    Pros

    • Odor and leak proof waste container
    • Built-in toilet paper holder
    • Level indicators for water and waste

    Cons

    • Heavy and bulky
    • Pricey

    Product Information

    • Dimensions: 18.39” x 15.75” x 17.83”
    • Weight: 13.5 lbs

    Most Affordable Portable Toilet

Camco Portable Toilet Bucket with Seat

Camco Portable Toilet Bucket - Features 3 Bag Liners for Easy Clean Up & Attached Carry Handle - Includes Seat and Lid Attachment (41549)

If you’re looking for the easier and most affordable toilet, the Camco bucket is a good option. It’s a plastic bucket with a toilet seat and a lid, and it will only set you back some $30. It doesn’t get much cheaper than that!

The main upside of the Camco bucket toilet is that you get a toilet with a tank that weighs only about 4 lbs. Most of the other toilets with built-in containers have a more sophisticated design that includes a freshwater tank and a flushing system, which just makes them much heavier. This is much lighter and more portable, but it’s not as convenient.

The Camco is a bucket. It doesn’t have a proper seal, and if you don’t want to carry a bucket full of waste, you will have to keep buying the waste bags. A pack of 10 bags can cost up to $25, so it’s nearly as much as the toilet itself. If you go camping really often and plan to use the bucket toilet regularly, it’s actually cheaper in the long run to just spring for something with a good flushing system now.

This portable toilet is made from UV-resistant polypropylene, so it is very sturdy and durable. The weight rating for the bucket composting toilet is some 300 lbs, so it should be able to handle most campers. It has an integrated carry handle so you can transport it easily, and the smooth plastic is easy to clean.

But the lack of convenience is going to be a deal-breaker for some. Even after you’ve finished your business on the Camco, you still have to carry that waste bag with you until you find a proper place to dispose of it.

    Pros

    • Very affordable and lightweight
    • Weight limit of 300 lbs
    • Toilet seat has a cover

    Cons

    • Waste bags are pricey
    • No flushing system

    Product Information

    • Dimensions: 13.4” x 16.1” x 13.8”
    • Weight: 4 lbs
    • Waste Tank: 5 gallons

    BEST FOR CAR TRAVEL

Green Elephant Folding Lightweight Portable Toilet

Green Elephant Portable Toilet for Camping - Portable Potty for Adults, Porta Potty Camping Toilet, Portable Toilets for Travel, Portable Toilet for Adults Camping, Toilets Portable,Emergency Bathroom

The Green Elephant portable toilet is a good option for campers who want to carry only the bare necessities. It weighs just 3.5 lbs and it folds entirely flat for easy carrying. Plus, this toilet is only 3” tall when folded, so it’s going to be really easy to store.

The legs of this toilet are made from stainless steel, so you know they are very durable. They’re going to stay put when you extend them, and you can be sure that there won’t be any malfunctions while you are actually using the toilet.

Another cool thing about the Green Elephant toilet is that it can actually double as a stool. Just put something over the toilet seat and nobody is going to even know that it’s a toilet! The stainless steel frame can support up to 250 lbs at a time, which isn’t ideal. Several of the other toilets can handle 50lbs+ more, but none of them are as lightweight as this one.

One downside of this potty chair is that it lacks a toilet seat cover. While this does make it lighter and more portable, it also means that you can’t really hide that you’re carrying a toilet with you.

It’s important to note that you don’t get any waste bags with this toilet, so you will have to buy those separately. It is recommended to use 8-gallon waste bags with the Green Elephant toilet.

    Pros

    • Lightweight and portable
    • Sturdy stainless steel legs
    • Easy to store

    Cons

    • Pricey for a toilet seat with legs
    • No toilet seat cover

    • Dimensions: 29” x 14” x 3” (folded)

    Sturdiest Portable Toilet

    GO Anywhere Complete Portable Toilet

GO Anywhere Complete Portable Camping Toilet - For Camping, Hunting, Fishing and More - Comes with 3 Bonus Toilet Kits (Waste Bag with Poo Powder, Zip-Close Storage Bag, Toilet Paper & Hand Sanitizer)

The Go Anywhere portable toilet is an interesting option for people who like trying out different things. This is the only toilet I’ve seen that looks like a briefcase when folded, which seems really cool. If you don’t want to advertise the fact that you are carrying a toilet with you, this is a great option.

Also, this toilet has a maximum weight limit of some 500 lbs, which is pretty amazing. If you need something that can handle heavier campers, this is one of the best options you can get your hands on.

The weight limit indicates that this is one sturdy toilet, and it is. Actually, it is surprisingly tough for something made out of plastic! And it’s also incredibly stable – once you lock the legs in place, you’re going to have a hard time collapsing them again. While this certainly makes the toilet more stable, it’s not that great because it means you’re going to struggle when it’s time to pack it up and get going.

The only downside to this toilet is the price point. Although you get good stuff in the kit – a waste bag, a deodorizing powder, a hand wipe, and some toilet paper – it is still pretty pricey for a plastic toilet seat with legs.

And the only advantage it has over some similar options is the maximum weight limit – unless you really need a toilet for campers who are over 300 lbs, you might find the more affordable options a better fit.

Additionally, there’s also the weight of the Go Anywhere toilet – at 7 lbs, it weighs as much as some toilets with a flushing system and a holding tank!

    Pros

    • Maximum weight limit of 500 lbs
    • Sturdy construction
    • Looks like a briefcase when folded

    Cons

    • Heavy for a plastic toilet
    • Pricey

    Product Information

    • Dimensions: 18.75” x 14” x 4.75”
    • Weight: 7 lbs
    • Waste Tank: None

    Zimmer Portable Toilet For Camping

Portable Toilet Camping Porta Potty - 5 Gallon Waste Tank - Durable, Leak Proof, Flushable Easy to use RV Toilet With Detachable Tanks for Effortless Cleaning & Carrying, for Travel, Boating and Trips

The Zimmer portable toilet features a full-sized seat, a convenient carry handle, and a good flushing system. It weighs some 10 lbs so it is pretty heavy, but if you want the convenience of a proper toilet, that’s a compromise you must make.

This toilet is made from durable polyethylene and it has a maximum weight limit of some 330 lbs. It is very sturdy, making it a camping necessity you will be able to use for quite some time. I love the fact that the flushing system of the toilet doesn’t require any AA batteries, and I love the price point of the Zimmer even more. At only some $80, this is one of the most affordable portable camping toilets that flush.

The seat and the tanks are detachable, which makes it a bit easier to carry the Zimmer toilet. Especially when you have to go and empty the tank – at least you don’t have to carry the entire toilet with you. And each tank has its own handle so it is still easy to carry the individual components of the Zimmer toilet.

The Zimmer has a freshwater tank that can hold up to 3 gallons of water, which can get you anywhere between 50 and 70 flushes. The freshwater container is in the bottom part of the toilet, just like the 5-gallon waste container.

It is worth noting that the Zimmer toilet features a watertight seal on the holding tank. This makes the toilet leakproof and ensures that odors will stay inside that waste container. However, it is recommended that you get deodorizing tabs for the least stinky experience.

    Pros

    • Tanks and seat are separate components
    • Leak and odor proof
    • Sturdy construction

    Cons

    • Bulky and quite heavy
    • No level indicators for tanks

    Product Information

    • Dimensions: 16.93” x 16.3” x 14.57”
    • Weight: 9.75 lbs
    • Waste Tank: 5 gallons

Reliance Products Fold-to-Go Collapsible Portable Toilet

Reliance Products FOLD-to-GO Folding Portable Camping Toilet | 300 Pound Capacity | Compact & Lightweight

This collapsible toilet from Reliance Products is probably the winner when it comes to carrying convenience. It folds down to 5”, so it’s super small and easy to carry around. And it weighs only some 4.5 lbs, so it’s really easy to carry it everywhere.

The legs fold for ultimate carrying convenience, and there’s a sturdy carry handle. It’s also great that the legs lock in place when extended, so you don’t need to worry about one of them malfunctioning while you’re using the toilet.

This is one of those portable camping toilets that has a  high weight rating of – 300 lbs to be exact. It is about 15” tall when unfolded and that might be a problem for tall people. You could elevate it if you can find bricks or something similar in your surroundings, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend carrying three bricks in your backpack just to be able to level the toilet.

Additionally, this toilet is designed to be used with waste bags, which makes it less convenient to use. Every time you need to go, you have to set up a bag first. And afterward, you need to dispose of that bag, so you might end up carrying it for a while until you find a dumpster or a trash can. Plus, the price of waste bags adds up over time.

It’s worth noting that this toilet only comes with one waste bag, so you will need to buy a pack of those immediately.

    Pros

    • Small and lightweight
    • Very affordable
    • Maximum weight limit of 300 lbs

    Cons

    • Comes with just one waste bag
    • Not the most convenient option

    Product Information

    • Dimensions: 14.5” x 14.5” x 14.5” / 5” folded
    • Weight: 4.5 lbs
    • Waste Tank: None

PLAYBERG Portable Indoor & Outdoor Travel Toilet

PLAYBERG Portable Travel Toilet for Camping and Hiking

The Playberg portable toilet is an interesting discreet option. It is lightweight and portable, which makes it a great option for camping trips. Plus, its design doesn’t really scream that it’s one of the best portable camping toilets, so if you don’t want everyone to know what you are carrying, this is a good option.

This toilet comes with a removable 8-gallon waste container. The holding tank has a lid that seals in the odor, as well as a convenient carry handle. And it is super easy to fit it inside the toilet – just lift up the seat and that’s it. You can use 8-gallon waste bags with the Playberg for the easiest mess-free experience.

Another thing I like about this toilet is the built-in toilet paper holder. It makes the Playberg more convenient and that’s always a plus.

There are carry handles on this toilet, but they are just cutouts in plastic. And since it weighs about 5.5 lbs, you’ll likely have to carry it with both of your hands after a while. This is not very convenient, especially for hikers and backpackers who prefer camping off the beaten path.

Perhaps the biggest downside of this toilet is the price point. It is not too expensive at some $75, but there are some better options for the same amount of money. There are a few portable flush toilets in this price range, which are usually more convenient because they consist of two detachable parts. They are easier to store and carry, and they give you the satisfaction of flushing out in the wilderness.

    Pros

    • Waste lid seals in odors
    • Built-in toilet paper holder
    • Lightweight and portable

    Cons

    • Carry handles are not very convenient
    • Pricey for a toilet that doesn’t flush

    • Dimensions: 17" x 16" x 14"
    • Weight: 5.5 lbs

    Alpcour Portable Toilet For Camping

Alpcour Portable Toilet – Compact Indoor & Outdoor Commode w/Travel Bag for Camping, RV, Boat – Piston Pump Flush, 5.3 Gallon Waste Tank, Built-In Pour Spout & Washing Sprayer for Easy Cleaning

The Alpcour is another flushable portable toilet for campers who want a more comfortable experience. The top section of the toilet features a seat and the freshwater container, while the bottom part features just the waste container. The two components are detachable, and each one has a convenient carry handle.

The fresh water tank has a capacity of 3.2 gallons, which is enough for 50+ flushes. The capacity of the tank is 5.3 gallons, so you don’t have to empty it very often. Especially since the materials are odor resistant and the holding tank has a good seal so it shouldn’t smell bad.

This flush toilet uses no batteries, so it is really easy to set up. Also, it comes with an extra sprayer – if there’s any mess you’d like to clean up quickly, just attach the sprayer to the water tank. The sprayer is small and lightweight so it’s not going to weigh you down at all, and it’s super simple to use.

Another thing I really like about this camping toilet is that the tank has a rotating spout. When you want to empty the tank just rotate the spout for an easy and mess-free experience. There is a seal on the snout, so you don’t have to worry about any leaks.

On top of all that, this toilet also comes with a carrying tote. It makes it a lot easier to carry the camping toilet in one piece, plus it’s great for storing this – the nondescript black bag doesn’t draw any attention, and you won’t ever have to explain to your guests why you have a tiny toilet in your closet.

The only downside of the Alpcour portable toilet is the price point. It is quite expensive at some $200, but that’s the price you have to pay for comfortable toilet use on your camping trips. And at least you don’t have to buy any waste bags for it!

    Pros

    • Tank is detachable
    • Carry tote included
    • Sprayer for quick cleaning

    Cons

    • Heavy and bulky
    • Pricey

    Product Information

    • Dimensions: 17.25” x 16.55” x 14.8”

    Coleman Portable Flush Toilet

    Coleman Portable Flush Toilet (Large)

The Coleman portable toilet is a good mid-range option. It retails for some $100, which is a good price for a flushing toilet with a tank. You get nearly all the comforts of your standard toilet at home, including an ergonomically designed seat for premium comfort.

This toilet actually has three different tanks – one for water, one for waste, and an extra compartment for chemical storage. This is great for those of you that want to use deodorizing agents in their portable camping toilet, to really minimize the odors.

The water tank can hold 4.8 gallons, which is plenty for repeated flushing. The waste container has a capacity of 5.3 gallons, and if it ever gets full you will notice when you just look down the toilet bowl. There are no level indicators for either of the tanks and that’s a shame.

You can separate the tanks for easier carrying – each one has a molded carry handle. Plus, it’s much easier to empty the tank if you don’t have to carry the entire toilet to do it. The Coleman camping toilet features a leak-proof lid on the tank snout, for mess-free emptying. Plus, the snap-down lid locks into place securely, and it minimizes any odors that might be coming out of the potty.

Another thing worth pointing out is that this portable camping toilet has a locking slide valve for easy one-handed flushing. It is extremely simple to set up and use, it is easy to carry and it has a hose connector for effortless cleaning. Overall, not a bad deal for the money.

    Pros

    • Built-in chemical storage
    • Locking valve for easy flushing
    • Leak proof lid on waste container

    Cons

    • No level indicators for tanks
    • No toilet paper holder

    SEAFLO Portable Toilet

SEAFLO Portable Toilet for RV, Boat, and Camping (2.6 Gallon)

The Seaflo portable toilet is one of the most affordable flushing toilets you can get. It is made from durable ABS plastic, it features molded carry handles on each tank and it has a leak-proof lid on the waste container for maximum convenience.

One of the things I like about this toilet is that you can choose between two different tank sizes. The smaller one is 2.6 gallons, and you also get the option of a standard 5.3-gallon tank. Obviously, if you usually go camping with just one friend or your partner, it doesn’t really make sense to get a massive tank. But if go camping in groups more often, a larger tank is just right for you.

Additionally, bear in mind that the smaller tank is much lighter and easier to carry, so it’s ultimately more convenient. And there are locks on the sides of the toilet so you can easily attach it to the tank.

The maximum weight limit of this camping toilet is 330 lbs, which is quite good. It has a 3.43-gallon water tank for flushing, and it requires no power or connectors to work. The seat is quite large and comfortable but the lid doesn’t lock into place, so there’s that.

Another thing worth pointing out is the shape of this portable potty. It is rectangular, which makes it more discreet. Honestly, this could pass as a cooler, so if you’re a bit self-conscious about carrying a portable travel toilet with you, this is a pretty good option.

Perhaps the only downside of the Seaflo portable toilet is that you don’t get any indicators for the water or waste. Everything else about it is great, from the ergonomically shaped carry handles to the durable ABS construction.

    Pros

    • Two tank sizes available
    • Rectangular shape is sleek and discreet
    • Ergonomically shaped carry handles

    Cons

    • No level indicators for tanks
    • Lid doesn’t lock into place

    Product Information

    • Dimensions: 15.9" x 13.9" x 11.9"

    Bonus: Green Elephant Privacy Tent

Green Elephant Camping Shower Tent - Pop Up Changing Tent, Privacy Tent, Pop Up Shower Tent, Camping Bathroom Tent, Outdoor Shower Enclosure, Portable Shower Tent for Camping

A privacy tent is a must for serious campers, so I had to include one. If you need privacy when you go to the bathroom, this is an excellent thing to have. And it means that you don’t have to worry about the weather – the best tents are waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about the toilet paper disintegrating before you even get a chance to use it.

Privacy tents are also great for changing your clothes and for showering. But only if you already have a camping shower since you don’t get one with the tent.

If you’re no stranger to weekend camping trips, give this tent a go. It is lightweight and easy to carry, and it lets you set up a proper bathroom on the camping grounds. Your trips are going to feel a bit more luxurious, and you’ll have a place where you can just escape everyone!

    What To Look For

With Or Without A Waste Tank

There are two main kinds of portable toilets – the ones that have a waste container and the ones that are basically just toilet seats with stool legs. Which one do you want?

The upside of the portable toilets with a tank is that they usually have a flushing system, so you can use it several times before you have to empty the bucket. But they can get heavy and if the seal on that bucket is not good enough, you have to be really careful when storing the toilet.

Bucket-less toilets have the advantage of being lighter and easier to carry around. This is beneficial for backpackers who already have to carry ridiculously heavy bags and can’t be bothered to carry a bulky plastic tank on top of that.

But the downside of these is that you need to use waste bags, which you have to repurchase over and over. This can make them simpler portable camping toilets more expensive in the long run.

Unless you’re a savage who doesn’t want to use the waste bags. In that case, you just need to find a hidden spot that could benefit from some fertilizer.

So, which sounds better to you? A heavy toilet that you can use pretty much anywhere you want, or a lightweight toilet seat that is easy to carry around, but only works with waste bags?

    Weight Limit

All these camping toilets have a maximum weight limit – for most of them, that is some 300 lbs. Some portable camping toilets have a lower weight limit, but there are also a few beasts that can handle up to 500 lbs. Obviously, it is important that you get a toilet that is built to handle your weight, so be sure to check the weight limits on the products you want to get.

     Weight And Portability

The best portable camping toilet for you depends on your camping habits. If you usually just drive to the campground and maybe walk for 10-15 minutes, any of the portable toilets featured here are okay for you. If you don’t have to carry a toilet for hours on end, even the heavier ones are worth considering.

But if you prefer to hike for miles and miles until you find the best possible spot to spend the night under the stars, you will need to sacrifice convenience for weight. You need a toilet that’s easy to carry for all those miles and not something that will have you stopping for rest every 15 minutes.

However, the bulkier toilets have one advantage – you can usually separate the seat from the tank, so two people can carry the different parts. This makes it much more convenient to hike for hours with a 14lb toilet, especially if you’re hiking with a group of people. You can take turns carrying the parts, so nobody gets too tired because of the heavy potty!

    Price Point

Portable toilets range in prices from $30 for a toilet seat with a bucket to several hundred dollars for a fancy camping toilet with a flushing system and a generous container. So, how much are you willing to spend on a portable toilet for camping?

However, bear in mind that the cheaper portable toilets that don’t have a waste tank require you to use waste bags with them. These range in prices from some $15 to $25 for a pack of 10. If you intend to use your toilet quite often, it is actually cheaper, in the long run, to get a pricier flushing toilet now.

Best Portable Toilets For Camping: Our Top Picks

Not quite sure which of these portable toilets is the right one for you? Then stick with one of our top three picks, depending on the type of toilet you want!

If you just want the cheapest option, go with the Camco Portable Toilet Bucket. It is easy to carry, sturdy and it certainly serves its purpose. The weight limit of the bucket is 300 lbs, so it should be suitable for most campers.

Plus the bucket only weighs 4 lbs, so it really is the lightest option with a waste bucket that you can buy. Just remember to get enough waste bags since you don’t get too many of those with the portable toilet.

Camco Portable Toilet Bucket - Features 3 Bag Liners for Easy Clean Up & Attached Carry Handle - Includes Seat and Lid Attachment (41549)
    • Portable Travel Toilet: This portable camping bucket is designed for camping, RVing, boating, or any other recreational activity; the 5-gallon camping toilet comes with a seat and lid attachment that snaps securely onto the rim of the bucket
    • Sturdy Construction: This bucket toilet is made of durable and lightweight UV-resistant polypropylene

Maybe you want a camping toilet without a waste bucket? If that’s the case, I have two good options for you. The first one is the lightest portable toilet that comes in at just 3.5 lbs by Green Elephant. It is simple, sturdy and it’s the best one for people who are just looking for the most lightweight option.

Green Elephant Portable Toilet for Camping - Portable Potty for Adults, Porta Potty Camping Toilet, Portable Toilets for Travel, Portable Toilet for Adults Camping, Toilets Portable,Emergency Bathroom
    • GET COMFORTABLE - When nature calls and you're in the great outdoors, make sure you’re comfortable! Green Elephant's adult portable toilet makes roughin' it feel like you're at home! This camping potty for adults is perfect for long car trips, boat, RVs & emergencies
    • PORTABLE TOILET FOLDING - At just 3.5 pounds, our portable camping toilet is lightweight, stainless steel, durable, can hold up to 250 pounds, and easily folds flat for convenient storage. Keep one outdoor toilet for camping in your car or camper and be prepared for everything!

The other one is the Go Anywhere portable toilet. It certainly deserves an honorary mention since it is the sturdiest toilet out of the bunch with a weight limit of 500 lbs. And it looks almost like a briefcase when packed up, so it’s great if you want something simple and subtle.

GO Anywhere Complete Portable Camping Toilet - For Camping, Hunting, Fishing and More - Comes with 3 Bonus Toilet Kits (Waste Bag with Poo Powder, Zip-Close Storage Bag, Toilet Paper & Hand Sanitizer)
    • CONVENIENT AND COMPACT: The GO Anywhere Complete Portable Camping Toilet weighs only 7 pounds and folds to the size of a standard briefcase. It provides the comfort and height of a standard toilet, supporting up to 500 pounds. No need for messy chemical waste storage tanks or dump stations. No assembly required.
    • COMPREHENSIVE KIT: Each GO Anywhere Toilet Kit includes everything you need for a complete portable toilet experience. It comes with (3) waste bags, (1) Poo Powder gelling/deodorizing agent, (1) secure puncture-resistant zip-close disposal bag, (1) individual toilet paper, and (1) lemon-scented hand towelette.

But if you want all the bells and whistles, go with the Porta Potti flushing toilet. It has generous tanks for both waste and freshwater, as well as level indicators for those tanks. This toilet is taller than most others at a little over 17”, so it’s actually more comfortable to sit on. It features a tight seal on the waste tank, as well as a built-in toilet paper holder.
