Best Everyday Wallet

Skog Å Kust Plånbok Floating Waterproof Wallet

Skog Å Kust Plånbok Floating Waterproof Wallet | Perfect for Boating, Kayaking and Other Outdoor Activities | Bifold Charcoal Grey

The Skog Å Kust Plånbok wallet might just be the best waterproof wallet out of the bunch. At first glance, it looks like a normal textile wallet, which makes it a great option for everyday carry since it doesn’t stand out.

But this is anything but a traditional everyday wallet. It’s made from ballistic Cordura, a material with great water resistance. The wallet also features TPU coating, ziplock internal pockets, and a clear ID window at the back.

This is a bi-fold wallet, and it works like pretty much any other wallet you’ve used. It has three card slots that can each hold two cards, in addition to the clear ID window. The two ziplock pockets can each fit 10 folded bills, so you’ll be able to carry quite a bit of cash on you. There’s no pocket or pouch specifically for coins, and that’s pretty much the only downside of this wallet.

Another thing to note is that the wallet also features a key clip, so it can really hold all of your essentials. Also, this wallet is designed to float, and it’s not meant to be submerged for prolonged periods of time, so it’s not a top option if you want something you can swim with. But if you’re crossing a river or accidentally drop it in a puddle, the contents should stay dry.

Keep in mind that it will only float if you attach two keys max to the clip.

Pros

  • Great everyday wallet
  • Ziplock pockets
  • Key clip

Cons

  • Should not be submerged
  • No coin pouch

Product Information

  • Materials: Ballistic Cordura
  • Water Resistance: IP-X6 waterproof
  • Dimensions: 0.12” x 3.62” x 5.12”

Best For Swimming

Nite Ize Runoff Waterproof Wallet

Nite Ize Runoff Waterproof Wallet, Tough Trusted Protection for Water Sports and Adventure Travel, Black

The Nitze Ize Runoff wallet is a good option if you’re looking for something that you can submerge underwater. It’s more of a dry belt bat than a proper wallet, with a loop that lets you secure this to a belt.

The wallet features IP67 water resistance, which means you can submerge it up to 1 meter and everything inside it will stay dry.  This is perfect for swimming, boating, and any adventures that include a lot of water. Since it’s not just a wallet, you can use this for more than just your cards and cash. It will fit a US passport, and it might even fit your phone, depending on how bulky it is.

The upsides of the Nitze Itze wallet are fairly obvious – it is small, lightweight, 100% waterproof, and it floats. The downsides are the lack of internal sleeves and pockets, a design that’s not pocket-friendly, and the lack of RFID protection.

Also, the fact that this is designed to be worn on a belt doesn’t make that much sense. A lanyard-compatible design would have been a much better option, at least when you consider that this is most likely to get picked up by people who need something they can swim with. When’s the last time you wore a belt in the pool?

If you want a waterproof everyday wallet, I would not recommend this. But if you want a 100% waterproof wallet/pouch that you can submerge underwater without worrying the money will get wet, the Runoff is the best option for you.

Pros

  • Entirely waterproof
  • It can fit a passport and some phones
  • Contents are easily accessible

Cons

  • No internal sleeves or pockets
  • Designed to be worn on a belt

Product Information

  • Materials: TPU construction
  • Water Resistance: IP67 water resistance
  • Dimensions: 7.08” x 4.17” x 0.42”

Best Hardshell Wallet

Ögon Designs - Stockholm V2 Aluminium Wallet

OGON Aluminum Wallet Smart case V2 - Easy Storage - Metal Lock - Strong RFID Blocking Card Holder - Up to 10 Cards and banknotes (Covering Carbon Taffeta Effect)

The Stockholm V2 aluminum wallet is one of the pricier options, but it’s also one of the best. This is a sturdy aluminum wallet with a heavy-duty metal lock and RFID protection. It’s not meant to be submerged, but it can protect the contents from splashes and rainstorms.

The wallet has ten card slots inside, and there’s no tolerance for anything larger than a credit card. This is made specifically for cards and it can hold a couple of bills and an ID in addition to them.

Keep in mind that if you have a work ID, you will have to take it out of your wallet whenever you want to use it – the faraday cage effect that protects your cards from thieves also means that none other types of cards won’t work while inside the wallet.

This wallet is very tough and durable. It’s almost indestructible, but still lightweight enough that your jeans will stay put while this is in your pocket.

Perhaps the best thing about this waterproof wallet is how easily accessible everything is. As soon as you open it up, all of the cards in the tearproof pockets are exposed. You have an immediate overview of everything inside, so you’ll never again have to search for that one specific card.

Pros

  • RFID protection
  • Extremely durable exterior
  • Lightweight but tough

Cons

  • Limited capacity
  • Will not fit anything larger than a credit card

Product Information

  • Materials: Aluminum
  • Water Resistance: Waterproof exterior
  • Dimensions: 0.39” x 3.43” x 2.2”

Best Large-Capacity Pouch

Tamfile Fireproof Pouch

Fireproof Faraday Bag with Zipper Anti-Tracking EMF GPS RFID Car Key Signal Blocker Wallet Shielding Pouch Protective Case for Cell Phone Privacy and Car Key FOB (1pcs)

The Tamfile Pouch is a good option if you’re used to bigger wallets that carry more than just your cards. This pouch can fit cash, cards, keys, a passport, and even smaller smartphones, so it’s great if you want one bag that can hold all your necessities.

The main material of the bag is silicone-coated fiberglass, which has great water and fire resistance. It repels water instead of soaking in it, which protects the contents from getting wet in rainstorms and snow, but it’s not supposed to be submerged. In addition to that, fire resistance is a great extra feature that can help protect the valuables even from the other extreme.

This pouch has two pockets, so keeping the contents organized shouldn’t be an issue. The larger pocket is made from RFID-safe materials, so it’s best to keep your cards and phone in that one. The smaller pocket is entirely fireproof and it’s best to store cash inside it. Also, the smaller pocket is open, while the larger pocket features a fire-resistant zipper.

It’s a big pouch, so it might not be the best choice if you’re used to minimal wallets. The top does fold and secures into place with a Velcro strap, but even with that, I doubt you’ll be able to fit this into the pocket of your jeans. Women’s pants definitely won’t fit the pouch, but some men’s jeans might. In any case, make sure that you’re okay with the dimensions of the wallet before you buy it.

Pros

  • Tough and durable
  • RFID safe pocket
  • Generous capacity

Cons

  • Won’t fit inside most pant pockets
  • Velcro strap feels cheap

Product Information

  • Materials: Silicone coated fiberglass
  • Water Resistance: Resistant to water and fire
  • Dimensions: 8.5” x 4.5”

Pelican Sport Wallet (Black)

Pelican Sport Wallet (Black)

The Pelican Sport is a heavy-duty wallet with water and dust resistance. It’s rated as IP54, which means that it will protect the contents from water splashing at any angle, as well as dust. Also, the Pelican case is crushproof, so you can rest assured that the cards inside will stay safe and protected even if the wallet is run over by a tank.

This is a hardcase wallet, so it’s never going to be as convenient or flexible as a softshell wallet. The Pelican wallet has two mesh pockets inside, and that’s it.

You can fit maybe two cards and a driver’s license on one side, and then a few bills that are folded into thirds on the other. Note that you can’t just fold the bills into halves and stash them inside – they must be folded into thirds or quarters, otherwise, they won’t fit into the wallet.

If you need a wallet that’s good for rugged environments, the Pelican Sport is a great option. It’s not my top choice for an everyday wallet because of the bulky design, but the durability and toughness are irrefutable.

Additionally, keep in mind that this is not 100% waterproof, meaning it can’t be submerged. It will keep the contents dry if you get caught in a rainstorm or spill a glass of water on the wallet, but if you submerge it entirely, water can seep in through the cracks.

Pros

  • IP54 water resistance
  • Extremely tough and durable (crushproof)
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Bulky design (adapted from an SD card case)
  • Limited capacity
  • Can’t be entirely submerged

Product Information

  • Materials: Crushproof exterior
  • Water Resistance: IP54 water-resistant
  • Dimensions: 5.55” x 3.27” x 0.85”

SlimFold Minimalist Wallet

SlimFold Original Size Minimalist Front Pocket Vegan Slim Wallets for Men (RFID Blocking Charcoal/Orange)

If you’re looking for an ultra-thin and portable everyday wallet that happens to be made from waterproof materials, the SlimFold Minimalist Wallet is the best option for you. This wallet can fit up to 20 cards, and it’s about two or three times thinner than most leather wallets.

It is made from a blend of tough synthetic fibers with high weave densities. The exterior of the wallet feels like a good ski jacket, and the same goes for waterproofing.

But the abrasion resistance is even better – this was originally developed for the moto industry, so you get about the same amount of abrasion resistance as you have in motorcycle gear.

The only downside of the wallet is that organization isn’t really its forte. Yes, you can fit 20 cards, but most of them are stacked together in the same pocket. It’s also easy to fit bills inside the wallet, as long as you’re okay with them being squished between some cards.

Also, the SlimFold features RFID protection, which is awesome for such a tiny wallet.

The exterior of the wallet is waterproof, and it will protect the contents from rain and splashes. However, it’s an open, bi-fold wallet, and if you submerge it underwater, everything inside will inevitably get wet.

Overall, if you want an everyday wallet with a generous capacity, excellent durability, and slim design, you won’t find many better options. And you can get this in two smaller sizes as well, so consider those if the SlimFold Original happens to be a bit big for you.

Pros

  • Waterproof exterior
  • Lightweight and slim
  • Generous capacity

Cons

  • Not for use underwater
  • Organization capabilities are not the best

Product Information

  • Materials: Blended synthetic fibers
  • Water Resistance: Waterproof material
  • Dimensions: 3.25” x 10.20” (open dimensions)

Flowfold Vanguard Bifold Wallet

Flowfold Recycled Wallets - 100% Recycled Material Vanguard Bifold Wallet, Front Pocket Wallet, Slim Minimalist Wallets Made in USA (Wolf Grey, Recycled Material)

The Flowfold Vanguard is a classic bi-fold wallet that is made from water-resistant materials. If you want just a basic wallet for everyday use that will keep the contents from getting wet in heavy rain, snow, and in case of accidental splashes, this is a really good option.

It is ultra-thin, lightweight, and flexible, so it should easily fit into the pockets of most men’s pants. The wallet is made from X-Pac, which is a durable outdoor fabric designed with water resistance, flexibility, stress, and abrasion resistance in mind.

The Vanguard was made for outdoor adventurers who often expose their wallets to treacherous conditions, with the sole purpose of keeping their cash and cards safe and dry inside.

There’s one long cash pocket in this waterproof wallet, as well as several smaller pockets for cards. Plus, there are two clear windows, which are perfect for your ID and driver’s license.

The manufacturer claims that you can fit 10-16 cards in the wallet, and that’s probably true.

However, keep in mind that you don’t get a separate sleeve for each one – you’ll have to squeeze all of them in the two dedicated pockets, so it’s not the most convenient in that sense. But if you’re looking for a compact and water-resistant everyday wallet, the Flowfold Vanguard is certainly one of the best options out there.

Pros

  • Thin and lightweight
  • Two roomy card pockets
  • Two clear windows for ID/driver’s license

Cons

  • No RFID protection
  • No pouch for change

Product Information

  • Materials: X-Pac fabric
  • Water Resistance: Water-resistant exterior
  • Dimensions: 3.25″ x 4.25″ x 0.1″

Vbax Microfiber Bi-Fold Wallet

VBAX Microfiber Waterproof RFID Slim Bifold Wallet for Men - Minimalist Front Pocket Card Holder Holds up to 10 Cards and Cash, Dark Blue

The Vbax bi-fold wallet is a slim and flexible everyday wallet. It is remarkably thin and lightweight, and so flexible that you can fold it two or three additional times, but only when it’s empty. This will easily fit into the pocket of your favorite pair of jeans, and you won’t even know it’s there.

There are five slots of cards in the wallet, and each can comfortably hold two. You can fit 10 cards total in the wallet, in addition to cash in the dedicated long pocket. Also, one of the slots features a clear window, making it perfect for your ID or driver’s license.

The wallet is made from synthetic microfiber, a material with excellent durability and water resistance.

The bi-fold wallet will not soak in any water, but it’s definitely not designed to be submerged or exposed to moisture for long. It’s tough and flexible, but the capacity is limited. Because of that, you mustn’t overstuff the wallet, if you want to use it for years to come.

In addition to that, the Vbax wallet also features RFID protection, ensuring your cards are perfectly safe inside. That’s a great feature for a simple everyday wallet and one that can certainly give you a little more peace of mind in your everyday life.

Pros

  • RFID Protection
  • Water-resistant fabric
  • Five card slots can fit 10 cards

Cons

  • No pocket for coins
  • Limited capacity

Product Information

  • Materials: Microfiber
  • Water Resistance: Water-resistant fabric
  • Dimensions: 4”x 2.8” x 0.02”

What To Look For

Materials

In general, it’s best to avoid textile wallets because they soak up water. Also, leather wallets might keep the contents inside dry in rain, but the water will likely damage the leather, thus making your wallet disintegrate soon rather than later.

Look for wallets that are made from synthetic fibers, TPU, and hardshell plastics. These usually have a waterproof exterior, but it’s an entirely different story if you want something you can bring along on a swim.

If you’re specifically looking for a wallet that can be submerged, you don’t just need to look at materials. You also need to look for airtight zip locks and waterproof zippers. And even then, it’s not recommended to keep those wallets submerged for more than 30 minutes at a time.

Look, even your high-end $1000+ smartphone that can take photos underwater isn’t supposed to actually be used underwater. Submerging the phone voids the warranty, even if the insanely expensive device is advertised as having superb water resistance. That’s why you can’t expect too much from a $50 wallet.

You might be able to find some dry bags that can hold all your essentials, which usually have zip locks that keep the water out. But you should be careful even with those – it’s best to let them float near you if you don’t want your cash to get soggy.

All of the wallets featured in this review have a waterproof exterior, meaning that they repel instead of absorbing water. No matter which one you get, the contents will stay dry in case of accidental splashes and heavy rainstorms. But that’s not a guarantee I can give you if you decide to go for a swim with your wallet.

Capacity and Features

How many cards do you normally carry in your wallet? Depending on your answer, you should look for something that has the right capacity for your everyday carry requirements.

I’ve included wallets that can fit anywhere from 2 to 20 cards, so make sure you’re getting something that will work for you.

Also, some of the wallets featured here have very limited capacity, in the sense that they won’t close if there’s more than the suggested number of cards inside, or they can’t fit anything larger than a credit card. In some cases you’ll have to fold your bills a certain number of times, otherwise, they won’t fit inside the wallet.

Another thing to look for is wallet features. Do you want multiple pockets, an ID window, or RFID protection? You can usually see any stand-out features in the list of pros, so be sure to check those out before purchasing anything.

What’s Your Definition of Waterproof?

Are you looking for a wallet that will keep the contents dry in a rainstorm, or just something that won’t fall apart if it gets wet? Maybe you’d like an option that can be submerged and still keep the contents dry as a bone?

If you want a waterproof everyday wallet, you have a few different options here to consider. Some are standard bi-fold wallets made from waterproof fabrics, while others are hard case wallets that are exceptionally tough and durable.

You have fewer options if you want a wallet that you can submerge for prolonged periods of time. Most of the best waterproof wallets aren’t designed for this, and you’ll likely have to get up a sealed dry bag. And even then, it’s best to let it float near you, instead of keeping it underwater for more than a few minutes at a time.
