In this review, we will focus on the Langford parka by Canada Goose – one of the best-selling brands north of the US.

Nobody does winter like Canada. So, it makes perfect sense that Canadian-made parkas and winter jackets are some of the warmest jackets that exist on this planet. In this review, we will focus on the Langford parka by Canada Goose – one of the best-selling brands north of the US.

This is a men’s parka, so it’s not really a good choice for the ladies. Especially because it’s kind of slim in the hip area, and it would not be a good fit for the average female body. But don’t fret ladies – there are plenty of other down parkas that you’ll love.

And gentlemen, let’s check out the Langford parka, and talk about all of its features. By the end of this detailed review, you’ll be 100% sure whether or not this is the right jacket for you!

Materials And Insulation

Canada Goose Men's Langford Parka,Black,Small

The Langford parka was designed to endure even Canadian winters. This really sounds promising, since we all know how cold it can get there. In fact, the exterior of the jacket is made from Canada Goose’s proprietary material called Arctic-Tech.

This material promises to keep you warm even in temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius, which is awesome. It is actually a mixture of 85% polyester and 15% cotton, coated with a DWR finish. This also means that the jacket is water-resistant, at the very least.

And it is also windproof, which significantly improves how warm it is. Overall, it is a really tough jacket, meant for some tough weather. If you live in an area where the winters are mild and the temperatures rarely go below zero, I really don’t think you need this jacket.

As for the insulation, the Langford parka is filled with 625 fill power duck down. Which is actually the warmest insulation you could get. But, keep in mind that the fill power of down ranges from 300-900, the highest number marking the highest quality. 625 fill power is kind of average, especially for a pricey jacket like this one.

You also probably noticed the fur ruff on the hood – that’s natural coyote fur. Now, if you really like everything else about the jacket but don’t want to wear natural fur, you should know that the ruff is removable. I don’t want to get into your personal views on the use of natural fur in clothing, but it is definitely something you should be aware of.

One other thing to note is that the hood is also filled with down, so it will keep you extra toasty. Overall, I would say that the combination of all of the different materials works really well and does an excellent job at keeping you warm.

Sizing and Fit

The jacket is available in a variety of different sizes, so you will be able to get one that fits perfectly. It’s a slim-fit parka, so it won’t be too loose. But, it runs true to size and there’s no reason to go a size up. Unless you plan to wear some really thick sweaters underneath it.

It’s also a mid-length parka, which is actually great for winter. The mid-thigh length will keep your legs as warm as your torso, but it does not look awkward. Men’s jackets that are too long can look weird and shorten you, and the Langford parka does not do that.

In addition to that, the parka also has an interior drawcord at the waist, which allows you to customize the way it fits you. And this also helps retain warmth – if it gets ridiculously cold outside, cinching in the jacket will help you stay warm longer.

All The Different Pockets

Canada Goose Langford Parka Pockets

I never actually realized how much I need pockets on my parkas until I got one that has just two shallow hand pockets. I shuddered just thinking of it.

Luckily, the Langford parka is far from that. It actually has 6 different pockets – two internal, and four external ones. The interior of the jacket features one security zippered pocket for your most valuable necessities – like your wallet or phone. And there is also a drop-in pocket, which is larger and can fit your gloves or scarf.

As for the exterior of the jacket, there are basically two sets of pockets. You get fleece-lined handwarmer pockets, which are pretty high up on the jacket. But not too high – actually, they are positioned perfectly, so that keeping your arms inside them will feel completely natural.

Below those, you also have two larger pockets with Velcro closure. They are about 6-7 inches deep, and they can fit pretty much everything you would want to carry with you on a winter day. Overall, the Langford parka does not disappoint a little bit in this aspect.

Keeps the Draft Out

Canada Goose Men's Langford Parka,Black,Small

For me, a snap placket is a deal breaker – I mean who actually has to time to close every single little button individually? It’s time-consuming, tedious, and just not worth it. So, when I saw that this particular jacket features Velcro strips instead, I was sold on it. There are five of them, and Canada Goose actually calls this “storm flap”.

Of course, before you actually snap the Velcro strips, you will zip up your jacket. Which is equipped with a heavy-duty water-resistant zipper that won’t allow any cold or moisture to get inside. Putting on this jacket is quick and easy – and you’d be surprised how rare that is with mid-length parkas.

There is one other thing that I want to mention, and that’s the rib-knit cuffs. So, the Langford has double cuffs, just like a proper parka should. The internal ones cling to your wrists, which means that there’s no draft around your hands.

And I personally think this is an awesome feature – there is nothing worse than cold getting into your jacket through the cuffs. And with this Canada Goose parka, that will never happen again.

Keeping the Langford Clean

Now, this is a bit of a downside – the Langford parka is dry clean only. This means that every time you want to wash this jacket, you’re going to have to spend gas and money to have someone do it for you.

I’m not a fan of this – I prefer to have outerwear that’s really easy to maintain. But that is just a personal preference – if you are okay with taking the parka to a dry cleaner whenever you want it washed, then this isn’t something you should worry about.

Warm All-Around

There is one more feature of this jacket left to talk about, and that’s the chin guardThe top part of the jacket that zips up over your face is actually fleece-lined and ensures that there’s no draft around your neck. I particularly like this feature, since I tend to get the coldest in this area.

Luckily, with fleece all-around, your neck and chin, coldness around your face will be a thing of the past. And that is pretty much the best thing about the Langford parka – it’s the space heater of parkas.

Canada Goose Langford Parka: Is It Worth It?

Let’s be real – if you’re checking out reviews of this parka, then you probably already know just how much it costs. So, there’s no need for me to tell you that it’s pricey or that you could buy three Columbia parkas for the price of this one. You have your eyes set on the Langford, and if you can afford it, then awesome.

You won’t regret getting it – it is an incredibly warm jacket, that will keep you toasty in temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius. The fleece around your chin and neck, as well as rib-knit cuffs, will ensure that there is no draft in this jacket and help retain your body heat.

In addition to that, the heavy-duty zipper will also keep any moisture out, and the drawcord at the waist will allow you to customize how the Langford fits you.

  • Hooded parka featuring removable coyote-fur ruff and concealed placket
  • Two front flap pockets

What’s really cool about this parka is that it is quick and easy to put on and take off – there’s no nasty snap placket, but rather five Velcro strips that snap together in a matter of seconds.

The only downside, for me at least, is the Coyote fur trim on the hood. I am not a fan of natural fur, but at least the trim is removable if you also don’t approve of that.

Overall, it is really an amazing parka, and it’s a great choice for anyone who wants to be fully prepared for the winter.
