Coalatree creates some incredibly useful products for us travelers. It is not that they have reinvented the wheel or anything and come up with something new and useful, instead they have re-designed the things we need to be immensely practical, portable, and lovely to use.
In this article we are going to take a deep look at the Coalatree Blankets on offer (there are only 2).
We all need a blanket on our adventures, whether it is something to have a picnic on, lay on to look at the stars, for some extra warmth, or anything else, and Coalatress has nailed it once again.
Join me in this Coalatree Blanket Review as we take a detailed glance into their blankets and why they are so awesome.

The Coalatree Kachula Blanket is the ideal blanket for adventuring in warmer climates and it does a lot more than just be a blanket, think of it more as a multi-tool than just a blanket.
The Kachula Blanket is made from 100% recycled materials so it is a massive eco tick for us environmentally conscious consumers.
The top of the blanket is made from a soft brushed nylon flannel for comfort and the bottom is made with more durable ripstop nylon so it does not wear out.
The entire blanket is covered with a DWR (durable water-repellent) finish. This not only ensures the blanket stays dry but also makes it stain-resistant too. Any spillages do not stand a chance on this blanket. If it does get too dirty, washing it is super easy. Just pop it in the washing machine!
The Coalatree Kachula Blanket is super light and portable too. It folds into its own stuff sack and weighs just 1 lb 9 oz so you can take it on every adventure.
When in the stuff sack, it works as a standalone pillow. You can also fill the stuff sack to create a pillow inside the blanket too. The blanket also comes with a removable hood so you can use it as a poncho and it is great for snuggling under in warmer climates.
The blanket comes in a modular design that allows you to link multiple blankets together or you can use the snap system to create a sleeping bag out of the blanket.
As you can see, there isn’t much that these blankets can’t do and you have a lot of different colors and prints to choose from, but they do have a few issues to be aware of.
The blanket is quite thin, not so big, and not so warm. This makes it ideal for one person in a warm climate, but not so great in colder places or when you want to share the blanket with your partner.
I would highly recommend buying two blankets if you want to share them with your partner.
The Puffy Kachula Adventure Blanket is a different version of the other Kachula blanket, and the key difference is in the name, it is puffy.
The Puffy Kachula Adventure Blanket is designed to be warmer and thicker than the Coalatree Kachula Blanket making it perfect for cooler climates such as the mountains.
It is built with the same materials, soft ripstop nylon with a DWR coating but is filled with 100% ComforMax® insulation. This means you can snuggle up on starry nights on the mountain or even convert it into a sleeping bag when needed.
The DWR coating ensures that liquids bead off the blanket quickly and easily so that you do not get any stains and if it needs a wash, just put it in the washing machine.
Despite being puffy thanks to the insulation, this blanket is just as portable and light as the other one. It weighs just 1 lb 9 oz and packs into its own stuff sack so you can take your blanket on every adventure.
When stuffed in the stuff sack, the blanket works as a pillow. Or, you can stuff the sack full of soft items to create an integrated pillow inside the blanket. It also comes with a waterproof hood so you can use it as a poncho too.
This blanket also features a modular system like the other one allowing you to connect two blankets together and make a sleeping bag too.
Size wise this blanket is ideal for one person, but when it comes to sharing it with a friend or partner, it certainly feels a little too small. Definitely buy two of these if sharing the blanket is the main purpose you will be using it for.
No one is going to carry a heavy and bulky blanket around on their adventures, it just doesn’t make sense if you have to pack a bag, as the blanket will take up most of it.
When it comes to weight and portability, the Coalatree Blankets nail it. They are both incredibly lightweight, weighing just over 1.5 lbs, and therefore will not take up much weight in your bags.
The blankets also pack down small into their own integrated stuff sack so they are as portable as they come too.
We all want a blanket that is soft and comfy but it also needs to last too, especially when being used outside on rough surfaces often.
Coalatree Blankets are made from tough nylon with a DWR (durable water-repellent) coating. This means they can handle the rugged adventure life and they are close to being both waterproof and stainproof.
Any liquids spilled on the blankets simply bead off and therefore don’t get the blanket wet or stained. This is also excellent when you need some warm cover from wet weather as the blanket will shield you from getting wet.
You might not expect a blanket to have more than one function as they are usually just there to ensure you have something soft to lie on or to keep you warm. But, that is not the case when it comes to a Coalatree Blanket.
All Coalatree Blankets come with a hood so they can be used as a poncho. You can also use them as a pillow when they are stuffed away in the stuff sack, or create a pillow by filling the stuff sack when using the blanket.
A Coalatree Blanket also comes with a latch system so you can fold it up and use it as a sleeping bag, or you can combine two into a sleeping bag or as a big blanket using the intelligent modular system.
Blankets are also there to keep you warm and there is a Coalatree Blanket for each type of climate. The first is thin and made for warm climates, the second is thick and made for cold climates, so you can always have the right amount of insulation for wherever you intend on going.
When folded out the Coalatree Blankets are perfect for one person laying down or two people sitting which is ok. But, the blankets are simply not big enough for two people to lie on, so it is recommended to buy two if you intend on sharing the blanket a lot with your partner.
