The Ulvik Fruit and Cider Route (Hike, Bike, Drive)

A great way to spend an afternoon in the stunning fjordside town of Ulvik is to do a walk, bike ride, or short drive along the Fruit and Cider Route.

It is a short road connecting the three main fruit and cider farms above the town where you can also stop and sample the products from the farm.

Details On The Cider Route

The fruit and cider route is actually quite short and you could walk it in 1-2 hours, depending on how many stops you make. Obviously, if you ride your bike or drive, it is even shorter.

According to Google Maps, the total distance of the cider route is 1.8km from the start to the last cider farm The route starts along the Tyssevikvegen just after the Strand Fjord Hotel and heads uphill to the first farm, then along and downhill to the last one.

It is quite an easy stroll that we did in under two hours with stops at each cider farm along the way. The great thing about the walk for us was that you could do it at a leisurely pace while enjoying the views of the fjord and the farms, as well as having a great time sampling the ciders and buying great local products along the way.

Of course, you are not obliged to buy anything at the farms and you can just pop in and see what they have. It is a fascinating business nonetheless!

The Fruit and Cider Farms

The three farms that you can visit begin with the Ulvik Frukt & Cideri, a small family-run affair with some seating where you can sample their ciders. It is less of an obvious business than the other two and is clearly run by the father and daughter.

Syse Gard fruit farm

The second far is Syse Gard Fruit Farm, which has far more space to relax outside and enjoy the stunning views over the fjord.

The last one is the Hardanger Saft- og Siderfabrikk, which seemed the largest of the two and we saw them bottling some cider while we entered the shop.

Products Available At The Fruit & Cider Farms

Ulvik Cider

It is actually quite surprising what is available at the shops in these Fruit and Cider farms. Sure, they have a few varieties of apple cider with different types of apples in them.

But they also have ciders with Aronia and raspberry mixed in, standard apple juice. aronia syrup, smoked meats in one farm and even dark chocolates with apple flavor.

Parking For The Walk Or At The Farms

Start of the Ulvik Fruit & Cider Route

If you are planning on walking the cider route I would park just after the Strand Fjord Hotel on the right-hand side. The same goes if you want to ride your bike. There is other parking by the church back in town if this parking lot is full.

For those of you driving the whole route, you are able to park at each of the farms as they have each made ample space for parking. And if one should be full, you can always walk back from the other. It is really not far!
