Best Surfing Booties in 2023

O'NEILL Mens Superfreak Tropical 2mm St Booties Wetsuit Accessories, Black, 10 US

What To Look For In The Best Surfing Booties

Thickness Vs Temperature

The first question you need to ask yourself is “how cold is it where I surf?” as this will indicate what thickness (mm) you need from your boots.

If surfing in freezing temperatures, 7-8mm is required, temperatures close to but above freezing then it’s 5mm, for general use 3mm, and for tropical use, 2mm.

Be sure to match the thickness to your water temperatures or your feet will end up either too cold or too hot!

Sole & Feel

The sole of a surf boot is very important as it connects you to your board and protects your feet from the bottom. Being able to grip your board and feel it is key to being able to surf, and if you are on a shallow reef, foot protection is key too!

Straps & Fit

Your boots need to fit you tightly like a globe as neoprene grows when it is wet. Make sure the boots you have fit well and if not send them back and change sizes accordingly. Additionally, don’t buy any boots with an arch strap as this keeps them in place while you are surfing.
