Is this a really good pair of pants for outdoor adventures or are you better off sticking with better-known brands like Patagonia and Columbia? We’ll explore that in this review, as well as everything else you need to know about the Trailhead pants so you can make your own decision. Keep reading to learn about the various features of these Coalatree hiking pants and figure out if they’re the right option for you.

The Coalatree Trailhead Adventure Pants are unisex hiking pants. They are made from ripstop nylon, a very durable material that’s perfect for outdoor adventures. The same material is often used for backpacks and luggage, so you have a rough idea of just how durable and tough these pants are.
The material is also tear-resistant, making these pants perfect for even the harshest conditions. They will survive encounters with rocks, and bushes, and protect your skin in case of an accidental fall. They truly are extremely durable and will hold up well even in the most challenging trail conditions.

Additionally, the Coalatree trail pants have a DWR finish, which makes them highly resistant to water. They’re not waterproof enough that you can go swimming in them and come out dry, but they will protect you in case of light rain and keep your undergarments dry.
The excellent water resistance also means that most stains will just slide right off the material. Keeping the pants clean while you’re hiking a long-distance trail might not be the first thing on your mind, but it certainly helps to have such clothing on your outdoor adventures.
The material these hiking pants are made from is also antimicrobial. It inhibits the growth of bacteria and microorganisms, which essentially means that the pants stay clean for a longer period. This is another thing that makes them great for backpackers – if you need a pair of pants to bring on a long-distance hike, these really are an amazing option.

In addition to the extremely durable nylon, the Coalatree hiking pants also contain 12% spandex. This means that they’re extremely stretchy, so much so that you could probably fit in a pair that’s a size too small.
The four-way stretch is great not only because the pants are much more comfortable, but also because they’re totally non-restrictive. And this is excellent for hiking because you can move around freely and attempt some more challenging moves while climbing without your pants getting in the way.

One of my favorite things about this highly sustainable brand is that they let you choose what kind of fit you prefer for your pants. You can choose between regular and slim fit for these pants, which is great. Go with the fit that you feel most comfortable in, but also consider the environment in which you’re going to wear these pants.
In other words, if you’re going to wear these while hiking on challenging terrain and wearing sturdy hiking boots, it might be best to go with the slim fit. It’s just easier to stuff it into the boots and protect your legs from any insects that might want to crawl up your pants.
Then again, if you don’t like wearing slim-fit pants, you can just go with the regular fit. The trouser legs are looser, so there’s more breathing room.
The Trailhead Pants are available in six different sizes, from XS to XXL. They run true to size so you can order them in whatever size you normally wear. If you’re usually between sizes, I would recommend going with the smaller size for these pants because they are so stretchy. But then again, you can just as easily go for the larger size and just tighten them at the waist until they fit right.
In addition to all that, I must point out that these pants have belt loops, so you can wear a belt with them if necessary.
A great thing about these hiking pants is that they’re highly adjustable. The elastic waistband has a drawstring cord to tighten the waist, in case the pants are a bit too loose for you. You can also adjust the trouser leg length thanks to the ankle drawstrings, so you can easily turn these full-length pants into capris if you want.
This is great for outdoor adventures because it means that the pants can be adjusted to fit your current needs at any time. And all of that’s on top of the super stretchy material that effortlessly moves with your body.

The Coalatree Trailhead Pants have four pockets in total. They are pretty deep pockets so you can use them to carry all the essentials you like to have easily accessible while hiking. One thing to note is that the front pockets are open, so avoid using them for very important items because they might fall out if you are moving a lot.
The back pockets have Velcro closure, so they’re a much better option for your phone, wallet, etc. – any items that are important to you and you want to be absolutely certain they won’t fall out while you’re suspended from a rock.
The Trailhead pants from Coalatree can be packed into their front pocket, which is extremely convenient for backpackers. If you’re getting these for a long-distance hike, you’ll be glad to know that they will take up very little space in your backpack thanks to the lightweight and packable design.
Also, when these pants are packed into their pocket, you can use them like a small pillow. Of course, they can’t entirely replace a proper pillow in your sleeping bag, but they can work in a pinch and they’re perfect if you need something to sit on.
Any great pair of pants has to be easy to clean – even the best pants are kind of useless if you have to take them to a dry cleaner whenever they get dirty. That’s not the case with the Coalatree trailhead outdoor pants; you can just machine wash these whenever you need to.
Just make sure to wash them in cold water. High water temperatures could damage the elasticity of the pants, and it’s recommended to wash them in water no warmer than 40 degrees Celsius.
This also means that throwing them in the dryer is not an option. Not only could it melt the spandex, but it could also damage the DWR coating, thus removing the excellent water resistance of the pants.
So, just wash them on the gentle cycle and hang them to dry, and you’re good. The nylon material is quick-drying and it won’t take long before the pants are entirely clean and dry and you can wear them again.
The one thing I’m not crazy about with these pants is the price point. They are on the pricier side, especially when compared to hiking pants from other manufacturers like Patagonia. But the quality is comparable to that of other, more established brands, so the question isn’t whether they’re worth it – they absolutely are.
If you can afford these pants without breaking the bank, then go for it. They are a little pricey but it’s nothing too extreme for a good pair of hiking pants. But if they’re outside your budget, you can find some more affordable alternatives from other popular outdoor brands.

Do the Coalatree Trailhead pants really live up to the hype? They do if you’re looking to buy a comfortable but durable pair of hiking pants that you’ll be able to wear for the next several years.
These pants are extremely durable thanks to the ripstop nylon construction, but also super stretchy and comfortable because of the high spandex content in the fabric. They have an adjustable waist and ankle cuffs, as well as four deep pockets for all your essentials.
They’re also waterproof, breathable, tear-resistant, stain-resistant, lightweight, packable, and antimicrobial. These are all features you’d expect from much pricier hiking pants, which just goes to show that you’re getting great value for money with the Coalatree pants.
