It’s worth noting that Maya Mobile’s unlimited data plan is a regional eSim data plan with coverage in 16 Latin American countries, so it’s absolutely amazing if you’re going to visit multiple countries in the region. Especially if you’re traveling with several friends or family members and you can split the cost of the eSim plan so that all of you can have Internet access. Maya Mobile has no restrictions on data sharing!

The main benefit of getting an eSim in Ecuador is that you can access the Internet whenever and wherever you want. This is great for looking up map directions, checking social media, and even working while you’re traveling.
Physical sim cards are better value for money if your phone still supports them, but eSims are more convenient. You can purchase an eSim from the comfort of your home before the trip and then activate it when you arrive in Ecuador, but to purchase a physical sim card you would have to walk around a foreign town looking for a store that sells them.
Local Mobile Operators Offering eSims in Ecuador
Claro is considered the best provider in Ecuador, so if you want a local sim card it will be best to look for one of theirs. The main advantage of getting an eSim or a physical Ecuador sim card from a local provider is that you will get a phone number, so you can send texts and make/receive analog calls.
Claro also offers the best coverage in Gálapagos Islands, so they’re pretty much your only options if you plan to travel to this remote region. This provider has quite a few prepaid plans for tourists that are very affordable, but I’m not sure whether they offer eSims to their prepaid customers. It’s best to check directly at a Claro store since you can’t get an eSim online anyway, and it’s worth noting that I’m certain Claro offers eSims to their postpaid subscribers.
Movistar is another great local provider that offers eSims in Ecuador, but they only offer them to their postpaid subscribers. You’ll have to purchase a physical sim card if you want a prepaid plan with access to the Movistar network.
CNT is also a popular network operator in Ecuador with affordable prepaid plans for tourists. Their prepaid packages are incredibly affordable and great value for money, but the provider doesn’t offer virtual sim cards.
