Having luggage with a handle that doesn’t extend to your desired height can be tiring. You have to crouch and bend your arm in uncomfortable ways just to get a good grip on the suitcase, or you have to carry the heavy bag in your hand, which is even worse. Replacing the luggage with a better one is a pricey option, and if you’d rather not buy a new suitcase, a luggage handle extender is precisely what you need!
It’s a tiny accessory that you mount to the luggage handle to extend it. That way you can maneuver the suitcase normally as if it had a wheel handle that fits your height perfectly. Keep reading to see the best luggage handle extenders you can get your hands on!

The D&J handle extender is possibly the best option there is. It’s a thick nylon extender that features a padded grab handle, so you can have a really good grip on your luggage.
Also, the wide design of this extender ensures that the wheel handle remains stable and that you don’t accidentally topple over your suitcase while trying to maneuver it. The D&J handle extender locks into place with three safety snaps that keep it put. This handle extension will add an extra 5” to the wheel handle, which should be plenty.
One thing to keep in mind about this wheel handle extender is that it’s not entirely rigid, so it will work best for dragging luggage. It’s not the best solution for spinner luggage, especially if you want to be able to maneuver the suitcase alongside you. Also, it’s best for smaller luggage, since the weight of checked bags could make the snaps come apart more easily.
The Armor handle extender is another great solution, especially if the former, 5” extender is too short for you. This allows you to extend the luggage handle up to 12”, which is a lifesaver for very tall people.
It secures in place with snaps and it features a thick rubbery grip point, so you can have a good hold on your luggage. However, the handle extender is not at all rigid, and there’s always a possibility that your luggage will tip over while you’re towing it if you’re not being careful enough.
Another thing to note is that this handle extender works best with smaller suitcases that aren’t heavier than 20-25 lbs. You can still try to use it to tow bigger luggage, but there’s a good chance that the snaps will come undone because of the extra weight. I would recommend sewing this onto your luggage handle if it turns out incompatible with heavier bags.
This two-piece set of luggage handle extenders is excellent value for money, and the best option if you have no desire to spend more than $10 on this accessory. You get two handle extenders that you can use with different pieces of luggage.
The design is similar to the Armor extender; it’s a piece of nylon with a rubber grip that you’re supposed to secure to the wheel handle of your luggage. While it offers a sturdy grip on the suitcase, it’s very flexible so it’s not the most stable solution for towing luggage. It’s possible for the bag to topple over while you’re towing it if you don’t pay close attention.
But this nylon handle extender is better than the Armor in a way, and that’s because it has two sturdy buckles that secure it to the wheel handle. They won’t come undone even if you’re towing a very heavy bag, which is why I would recommend this handle extender for all checked luggage.
The length of this extender is approximately 24”, which means that it can add an extra 10-12” to the wheel handle once it is properly secured.
The T-Bone handle extender is unique because it’s the only handle extender I managed to find made from a rigid material. It’s manufactured from injection molded nylon and it is suitable for all wheel handles that are approximately 5” wide. The grip of the extender is ergonomic, so it will feel comfortable and offer a sturdy grip on your luggage.
The size of your wheel handle is very important because the T-bone is not at all flexible. It has two curved sides that grip the barrels of the wheel handle when you pull this upwards, and if the handle is wider than the T-bone, you won’t be able to secure it to the bag at all. The manufacturer says that most Tumi luggage is not at all compatible with this extender.
What’s great about this extender is that it’s extremely stable. There’s no way your bag will topple over when you’re using the T-bone to tow it, so it’s perfect for heavier bags. Also, the T-bone has a tiny plastic stop that allows it to rest on the luggage handle when you’re not using it, for maximum convenience.
