Materials And Durability

The Platinum Elite luggage from Travelpro is made from premium materials. High-density nylon fabric is the main material for the body of the luggage and it’s coated with DuraGuard, for improved resistance to stains and abrasion.

All the zippers on the luggage have Supra zipperheads, which are developed by the brand. They’ve been engineered to handle the damage from daily use, so they last much longer than zipperheads on cheaper luggage.

The suitcases from the Platinum Elite collection also feature genuine leather details, for a more luxurious look and feel.

Sizing Options

The Travelpro Platinum Elite luggage is available in five different sizes. Three are carry-ons and two are larger checked bags.

The smallest suitcase is an international carry-on, and it’s a genuinely great rollaboard suitcase with all the features you could need in a cabin bag. The same goes for the two other carry-ons, but it’s worth noting that they’re a bit bigger so they’re not ideal for international travel.

The two checked bags are a medium-sized 25” suitcase and a large, 29” case. The medium bag is great for trips between a week and ten days, while the largest Platinum Elite suitcase offers enough packing space for trips that extend beyond two weeks.

Main Packing Compartment

The main compartment features an interior tie-down system with some very effective compression straps. The suitcases can fit more items than they might look like, which makes them ideal for people who haven’t mastered the art of packing light.

In addition to the tie-down system with integrated accessory pockets, the luggage also features a removable wet pocket that’s entirely TSA compliant. There’s also a zippered mesh pocket on the inside of the lid, for the excellent organization of all your smaller belongings.

The Platinum Elite luggage also boasts expandable capacity. Every suitcase expands 2” with the dedicated zipper, and it’s worth noting that the expandable zipper section is engineered to be tip-resistant.

In addition to all that, the two checked suitcases (25” and 29”) also feature a built-in garment bag in the lid. It’s a fold-out suiter, and it’s perfect for items that you want to keep wrinkle-free during transit.

External Pockets

All the Travelpro Platinum Elite suitcases have a minimum of two external pockets. The two checked bags feature a zippered pocket on the front panel and an additional zippered front compartment behind it. The smaller bags have even more external pockets, which is great for staying organized and keeping your travel essentials easily accessible.

The carry-on luggage from this collection boasts the same external compartment as seen on the larger luggage, as well as two smaller zippered pockets on the front panel. The smallest pocket is a dedicated power bank pocket, while the bigger pocket beneath is perfect for storing a few handy things.

Precision Glide System

Travelpro has equipped all the luggage in this collection with the Precision Glide System. It includes the adjustable PowerScope handle, the MagnaTrac double spinner wheels, and the Contour Grip of the wheel handle.

These elements are all excellent on their own, but when they’re combined, they offer a buttery smooth suitcase rolling experience. This luggage practically glides through the airport, while the handle ensures effortless maneuvering, whether you prefer going in a straight line or weaving to avoid airport traffic.

It’s also worth noting that the wheel handle is height-adjustable. It locks into four different height positions, so it should be easy for most people to adjust it to their preferred height.

Grab Handles

All the suitcases in this collection are equipped with three grab handles, so it’s easy to pick them up. This is especially important for such Travelpro carry-ons since they’re going to get picked up and placed in the overhead bin fairly often.

The top and side grab handles are made from genuine leather, which just makes the bags feel more luxurious. There’s also a grab handle at the bottom, but that one’s made from simple plastic so it’s just sturdy and convenient instead of luxurious.

Integrated TSA Lock (Checked Luggage Only)

The two larger suitcases have an integrated TSA lock, for peace of mind while traveling. It’s a standard three-digit combination lock that secures the zippers of the main compartment, and it’s TSA-friendly. That means that TSA agents are able to open your luggage with their master keys, should they choose it for a random inspection.

External USB Port (Carry-On Luggage Only)

The Platinum Elite carry-ons are all equipped with an external USB port for charging on the go. They also include a dedicated power bank pocket on the front panel of the luggage, but it’s worth noting that the power bank is not included in the purchase.

The USB port on the luggage is Type A, and it should work with most present-day charging cables.

10 Year Warranty

Travelpro offers a 10-year warranty for any defects in the craftsmanship and materials of their products. The warranty applies to wheels, zippers, carrying handles, and extension handles, so pretty much all the parts of the suitcase which need to be operational in order for the luggage to function properly.

Travelpro’s warranty doesn’t cover any damage inflicted by airline personnel, or any abrasions or dents that happen during normal use and don’t impact the functionality of the bags. It’s certainly not the best warranty out there, but at least you know you might be able to repair the zippers or wheels for free, as long as they’re not torn out by baggage handlers.

Value For Money

The Platinum Elite luggage from Travelpro is quite pricey. It’s almost in the range of brands like Tumi and Briggs & Riley, but Travelpro isn’t exactly known as a luxury luggage brand. They are known as a premium luggage brand, so it’s much easier to justify the higher prices.

It’s partly because of the branding, but largely due to the high-end materials. The suitcases feature the brand’s proprietary zippers, a high-end wheel and handle system, genuine leather details, and excellent craftsmanship.

They’re also covered by a decent warranty, and they’re frequently discounted so it’s easy to get a really good deal on the Platinum Elite luggage. Overall, if you’re looking for a quality softside suitcase and you’re fine paying a little more for a premium item, this luggage is certainly worth considering.

Travelpro Platinum Elite Review: Final Thoughts

Travelpro Platinum Elite luggage is just the right blend of luxury and functionality. It’s made from premium materials, it’s got sturdy and smooth-rolling spinner wheels, and about a dozen different zippered pockets.

The luggage has an expandable capacity, it boasts genuine leather accents and a height-adjustable wheel handle for effortless maneuvering around the airport. The smaller cases feature a USB port and power bank pocket, while the bigger bags sport TSA locks and wrinkle-free garment bags.

We generally have very few complaints about this luggage collection from Travelpro, and the major one is the price. But even that’s not a deal-breaker because the suitcases are great value for money and they’re often on sale so it’s easy to find a great deal on this luggage.
