Why The DJI Phantom 4 Pro Plus Is Worth Buying (vs Phantom 4 Pro)

So, you are wondering if the Phantom 4 Pro Plus is worth investing in instead of saving the money and grabbing the Phantom 4 Pro.

Well, in this quick post I am going to show you why one is worth buying instead of the other.

The Difference Between The Phantom 4 Pro and Pro Plus

There is one major difference between the Phantom 4 Pro and the Plus and that is the inclusion of a very high-quality screen on the controller.

Now, that on its own may not seem like a big deal. Especially if you are new to drones.

But trust me, it is.

You see, the problem you will encounter once you start flying your Phantom 4 Pro a lot is quite simple: battery life.

First, there is the life of the drone battery itself. And for that, you can bring spares.

Second, there is the life of your screen’s battery.

Most of us have to use our phone or tablet as a screen, and as you probably know, the battery life of those is quite frankly horrible.

I have had situations with my drone where I am flying and suddenly my phone screen goes black! The battery needs replacing and it is so unreliable now, that I have to make sure it is 100% charged before I fly. And that I have a power bank with me too. But, even with the power bank, I have to land. Turn the drone off, recharge the phone (takes ages) and then I can fly again!

Epic fail!

Screen Brightness 2x A Normal Phone

When you are outside on a sunny day it is always difficult to see what is happening on your phone, right?

Sure, you can turn up the brightness, but it is limited (and the brighter it is, the sooner the battery runs down).

With the Phantom 4 Pro Plus you get a screen with a brightness of 1000 cd/m2, which is more than 2x as bright as conventional smart devices (according to DJI).

So, when you are out flying in bright conditions, which will happen a lot (especially since we all love to fly more when the sun is shining!), you will appreciate being able to see what your drone camera sees – very clearly!

Faster Setup

One of the most annoying things I find when setting up to fly is having to get everything ready. The more things you have to mess around with, connect, plug in etc, the more time you waste before and after flying.

With a dedicated screen, you can eliminate one more thing you have to set up. No more having to take out (and remember your phone) and connect it.

Better Features & Integration

When you are bringing in an “outside” piece of technology to run your drone (your phone or tablet) you risk quite a few things going wrong.

Aside from the battery life and screen brightness, there is also the way the app runs on your phone. Is there enough memory, a fast enough chip etc. That is the first issue.

But on top of that, there are quite a few things DJI just can’t account for or know.

So, with the built-in screen you get the benefits of DJI being able to fully integrate and optimize everything (hardware and software) resulting in:

  • Reduce video lag (ie. what you see is almost exactly what is happening right now – no time lag)

  • Increased connection possibilities (Micro SD slot & HDMI Port)

  • Embedded loudspeaker

  • Wifi allowing you to instantly share your footage

Your phone might have some of these, but it is unlikely to be as well integrated or seamless.

Should You Buy The Phantom 4 Pro Plus

Personally, for the extra few hundred bucks, I think it is worth the investment. Especially since the drone on is not cheap anyway.

Having to deal with a phone, apps, upgrades, battery life, etc is not fun. I wish I had a dedicated screen on my drone.

If you want to see how much exactly it is going to cost, click on the button below which will take you to Amazon, and sometimes they have deals as well.

Either way, you will love having a drone in your life! If not the Phantom, then maybe a Mavic or even a Spark!
