Airalo vs Flexiroam eSims: Which Is Better?

It can be hard to choose the best eSim provider as they all have very similar offers. Airalo and Flexiroam are two eSim companies that are often compared.

So, which should you go to for your next travel eSim. And in what cases is one better than the other?

The easiest way to quickly compare them is to look at the pros and cons.

Airalo Pros & Cons

Airalo is one of the top-tier eSim providers around and I have been very happy with them while traveling around the world. Below are some of the pros and cons I think are worth mentioning.

Pros

  • Website or App access to buy plans
  • Competitive prices (sometimes as low as $1.5 per GB)
  • 84 countries and most regions
  • Global packages are still reasonable
  • Airalo keeps you updated when your eSim is empty or expiring

Cons

  • Some countries are more expensive than others
  • Network carriers are not known ahead of purchase
  • Packages only last 1 month max

Flexiroam Pros & Cons

Flexiroam is not as popular as Airalo, but they certainly have a lot of options as well. There are specific pros and cons of using them too.

Pros

  • Global packages have up to 1 year time limit (rare on others)
  • Bigger data packages (up to  50 GB on some regional plans)
  • 150 countries & most regions

Cons

  • Local plans are more expensive
  • Harder to shop for the best plan
  • No App to shop

When Should You Use Airalo?

Airalo is one of the top-tier eSim providers and would recommend them in almost all cases. They have lots of local, regional an global plans. Their service is top-notch. Their site and App easy to use. They update you when your plan is running out or nearly empty.

I could go on.

The only time I would NOT use Airalo is when you need

  • really large packages (but you can always refresh on the go)
  • the package to last for more than a month. The Airalo limit seems to be 1 month
  • they don’t cover your country (Flexiroam has a lot more, see list below)

Their packages are also competitive, so let me give you some examples:

So, as you can see, the more data you get the cheaper it is. But, the more countries you get in the package, the more expensive it is. That is generally how all eSim providers work.

The cost ranges from $7 – $1.5 depending on which country or region.

In general, Flexiroam. But it depends on what you are looking for. Their Global packages are the most impressive for their reach (150 countries) and time-span (up to 1 year), and also their data package size. But it costs a lot of money.

Here are some examples of big data packages or long package expiry times

  • Global (150 countries) 11 GB Validity: 360 Days –  $319.99
  • Global (150 countries) 7 GB Validity: 360 Days  – $199.99
  • Latin America 50GB 90 Days – $200

When Should You Use Flexiroam?

Flexiroam in general is a lot more expensive. But their major advantages are their country coverage is nearly double and their packages are sometimes larger and longer.
