A Buyers Guide – What To Look For In A Hunting Day Pack

Here are a few things to consider while you’re looking for the ultimate hunting day pack. It may seem like common sense but all the points below are worth taking a peek at.

Materials

There is a range of materials that day packs are typically made from. The materials play a big part in the performance and durability of your daypack as well as how noisy it can be. The most common materials are nylon, dip-stop nylon, polyester, and canvas.

Nylon

Nylon is a strong and durable material that can handle a large weight load, perfect for hunting backpacks. It’s UV protected and drys fast after it gets wet, ideal.

Rip-Stop Nylon

Rip-Stop Nylon is simply a step up from normal Nylon. It has all the assets of normal nylon but it is more resistant to wear and tear.

Canvas:
Canvas is a very strong, durable material and it is what day packs were first made from. The great thing about canvas is that it lasts, feels and looks good. You can wash it but it does take a while to dry once wet and will slowly get worn out in the sun.

Polyester:

Polyester is similar to Nylon in that it is UV protected, dries quickly, and can carry a heavy load. it’s being used more and more for day packs and the technology is only getting better.

Camouflage

While you’re hunting, the idea is to blend it, you’re not going to walk around with a jazzy daypack. All the hunting backpacks in this review come in either a camouflage print or a solid color. Be sure to pick the right one for you and the places that you hunt in.

Size & Capacity

Size is an obvious one. You’re going to want a pack that fits everything you need in it plus has all the right little pockets for all your hunting tools. This choice is totally up to you. Be sure to check out the carrying capacity, all the little pockets and work out if they meet your requirements. And don’t forget, here we are talking about day packs. If you want something for longer hunting trips, then check out the Mystery Ranch Metcalf, it’s one of the best I have seen!

Comfort

You might find what looks like the ideal pack in terms of size, material, pockets, MOLLE but once you put it on, it could be so uncomfortable that you’ll want to throw it on the campfire. Make sure you read reviews related to comfort, especially if you’re taller or shorter than average. Then test the bag when it arrives to be sure.

Our Favorites

It’s been pretty hard to differentiate between the top three day packs, as they are all pretty similar but here they are nonetheless.

The best allrounder is Allen Company Arroyo 3200 Camo Hunting Daypack. This pack is simply excellent for hunting and comes in at a good price.
