Introducing the first item on our list of the best sleeping bags for camping, the Coleman Green Valley.
This rectangular sleeping bag has a simple yet effective design and will keep you warm down to temperatures of 30⁰F, making it a great 3-season sleeping bag. We love that synthetic fill not only keeps you warm but can be washed in the machine, which makes cleaning up after a trip that little bit easier.
One of the things we like the most about this bag is that fiber lock construction, which keeps insulation in place so you don’t end up with a bunch of it up top and chilly feet in the night – something you don’t often see at the lower end of the sleeping bag price spectrum.
It’s also super easy to pack away thanks to the locks on the edges of the bag that keep it straight while you roll it up. Plus, Once you’ve bundled it up, no need to fiddle around tying a knot, simply snap the quick cord in place and you’re good to go.
The cuff on the collar will make you feel nice and cozy and you settle down for the night, but otherwise, this bag doesn’t have any other frills – although we wouldn’t expect it to at this price.
Overall, if you’re after something easy and affordable for 3-season camping, then a sleeping bag is a great shout.
The Teton Sports Celsius is a great option for anyone that’s on the fence between a rectangular versus a mummy-style sleeping bag.
The main body is rectangular, leaving you plenty of wiggle room, yet there’s a half-moon drawstring mummy hood on the top to keep you snug and warm.
This bag will keep you warm even at temperatures as low as 0°F thanks to the fiber-fill, double-layer construction, and those all-important draft tubes.
One slight downside is that this padding can be a little tricky stuff back in its sack…. but a major plus is that the bag comes with hang loops for long-term storage, which is a great way to increase the lifespan of your filling and the overall bag.
Other nice touches include the inner pocket so you can keep your valuables close at hand (no scrambling around for your phone in the morning) and anti-snag zippers.
This sleeping bag is available in a range of sizes, and you can even choose which side your zipper is on, which is fab for all your lefties. One thing to bear in mind is that the sizes aren’t the most generous, so if you’re not sure which to go for, we’d recommend the larger size.
For those of you that prefer to be nice and snug, while you doze, the WINNER OUTFITTERS Mummy Bag could be right up your street.
The drawstring mummy hood isn’t just for comfort, it will keep you toasty too, as will the large draft collar and draft tubes.
The hollow fiberfill compresses down nicely, so you won’t have any trouble getting this bag in its stuff sack. We also like that this sack comes with straps, which can make lugging around your camping gear that bit easier. It’s pretty lightweight too, making it the perfect companion for backpacking camping trips.
The coated 350T polyester shell is not only water-resistant but also rip-resistant and super soft. And you can pop the whole thing in your washing machine when you get home, yay.
Although the main body has a sculpted shape, the foot area is nice and spacious so you can rest your feet properly after a day exploring the outdoors. You can also unzip from the bottom of the bag for extra ventilation, making this a versatile 3-season sleeping bag.
If mummy bags are your thing, but you don’t feel like shelling out too much cash, then this really is a fantastic option. Oh, and we love the range of colors it comes in too.
If you like the sound of the WINNER OUTFITTERS Mummy Bag, but you’re willing to invest a bit more to keep yourself warm at cooler temperatures, then we’d definitely recommend the Marmot Trestles Sleeping Bag.
Marmot is renowned for being a reliable manufacturer of all things outdoors, and we’d certainly trust them to keep us warm on a snowy camping trip. The mixture of hollow and polyester fibers, combined with dual-layer construction, means this bag will keep you warm even at a chilly 15°F.
It’s also lightweight and compresses nicely, making it a great choice for mountainside camping trips. The spacious foot box will let you stretch out your toes and stops your feet from overheating, and the fill is water-resistant so you won’t wake up to any moisture either.
And if you find your feet getting a little on the warm side, simply make use of the double zipper to ventilate the bottom of your bag – just make sure you’re careful with them, as occasionally they can be a little stiff to use.
This bag is available in regular and long, and the sizes aren’t huge, so if you’re tall we’d suggest going for this option.
Overall, this one of our favorite cold-weather camping bags, and while it’s not the cheapest option out there, we think it still offers great value for money.
If you want to bring the comfort of a queen-size bed to the great outdoors, then look no further than the Sleepingo Double Sleeping Bag. This beast of a bag can comfortably fit two adults, and if you want to switch things up you can easily unzip to make two singles.
It’s also very reasonably priced, considering you’re getting two for the price of one, and it even comes with two travel pillows, although they are tiny little things.
As well as being huge, this bag is also super comfy, thanks to the combined tetron and cotton interior. But don’t let that fool you – this bag has a waterproof, rip-resistant exterior and has been built to last – and, in case you don’t believe us, it comes with a limited lifetime warranty too.
Despite being durable and super comfortable, this bag is surprisingly lightweight, so don’t rule it out for any backpacking trips you might be planning.
Although the survival temperature is 32°F, it’s better suited to temperatures of 50°F and above, so it’s not the bag for you if you’ll be camping in cold conditions. But if you’re after a spacious, 3-season, affordable, bag, then we can’t see a reason why you wouldn’t go for this one.
Finally, an option specifically for you taller folk! The Coleman Big Basin Sleeping Bag can fit adults up to 6 feet 6 inches in height. We also love that it’s nice and spacious, a classic feature of rectangular bags, but also has a snug mummy-style hood for warmth and comfort.
It’s this hood, alongside thermolock draft tubes and the super warm polyester insulation, that make this bag appropriate for temperatures as low as 15°F. Don’t worry about overheating though, this bag is nice and versatile and the double zipper allows you to vent air until you find your optimal temperature.
You can also use the drawstring on the hood as an extra means of ventilation.
Other nice perks are the fact it’s machine washable and the zippers are anti-rip. Unfortunately, it is a little on the heavy side, so it isn’t ideal if you’ll be carrying your pack on your back, but if you’ll be taking a vehicle with you then this bag is a great choice for anyone that wants to stretch their long limbs in cold climates.
Here’s one for the little ones, the Colemans Kids sleeping bag. This bag is a great way for you to inspire a love of the outdoors in your youngster. The glow in the dark design is super fun and will be helpful for anyone who’s a little bit scared of the dark.
We know that kids wiggle around a lot too, which is why we love the way the quilt has been manufactured to hold the insulation in place and stop any bunching. And the zips are anti-snag too so there shouldn’t be any problems on that front.
It’s also machine washable, which is essential seeing as this bag will inevitably end up a lot dirtier than yours.
Designed for temperatures no colder than 50°F, this bag is great for introducing little ones to warm-weather camping. It’s lightweight too, so it won’t add much weight to your camping gear overall. Our major complaint is that this wasn’t around when we were young…
If you want something that will keep you toasty without dragging you down, the Hyke & Byke Eolus sleeping bag is a great option. Packed with an 800-power goose-down filling, you can be sure you’ll stay warm even at temperatures as low as 0°F. On top of that, this down is lined with synthetic insulation that increases durability and is also water-resistant.
You might expect something this warm to weigh in a little on the heavy side but, fortunately, this is not the case – all size options weigh around 3 lbs. It’s not only the padding that makes this bag so warm but also the baffles that hold the down in place so you don’t get cold patches and the drawstring hood.
It also has a spacious foot box, a rip-stop lining, and anti-snag zippers, although they do occasionally snag sometimes. We also love the available range of colors available – they’re definitely some of the best-looking sleeping bags on the market – and there’s a range of sizes too, so you can be sure to get the bag that’s right for you.
These bags are a little on the expensive side… but they’re made to be as durable as possible and you won’t regret the investment, especially considering the included lifetime warranty.
If you’re going to be camping in seriously cold conditions, but you also love some wiggle room, then the Brown Camping McKinley bag should be right up your street.
Impressively, this bag will keep you warm right down to -30°F thanks to the powerful insulation, sculpted hood, two layers of construction, and baffles on the chest and zippers. But don’t worry, you won’t be cocooned in this bag, not with spacious dimensions of 36 x 90 inches.
The rip-stop shell and limited lifetime warranty mean there really is no reason why this bag shouldn’t last you a lifetime. There’s a handy little stash pocket too, which is one of our favorite extra features.
Although it comes with a stuff sack, the actual stuffing can be a little difficult and it weighs a tonne… but we think that’s forgivable seeing as your getting a super warm sleeping bag at a fraction of the usual price.
If you want something that will keep you toasty even under the harshest of conditions, but you don’t want to pay a fortune for it, then this bag is the one for you.
So, there you have it, our list of the best camping sleeping bags currently on the market. But what are the most important things to consider when you’re deciding which bag is right for you? Here are a few pointers to get you started:
How important this is will depend on the kind of camping trips you’ll be going on. If you only plan on doing a few summer outings, then you won’t need a super warm sleeping bag – one of the 3-season bags will do you just fine. Plus, there’s always the option to take an extra blanket if you’re unsure.
On the other hand, if you think you’ll be heading out on camping trips throughout the year, and you might be heading up some mountainsides, then you should opt for one of the warmer bags. Keep an eye out for a warm bag that has ventilation options, and you might be able to use it on those warmer nights too.
Extra warmth generally comes at an extra cost, so it’s good to have a think about whether you really need that extra padding.
Again, how important this is will depend on the kind of camping trips you’re likely to go on. If you’ll be backpacking and carrying your bag on your back, then you’ll want to shed as many pounds as possible. Generally, cooler bags are lighter, but there are some options out there with great warmth-to-weight ratios.
Alternatively, if you’ll be driving to the campsite, then the weight is somewhat irrelevant and you can focus on other things.
And now for the fun part… extra features. We’ve looked at bags that have stash pockets for your valuables, ones with loops on the compression sack, and even ones that glow in the dark, although sadly the last one was for children only…
There are some great little perks out there, just make sure you don’t get too distracted from the fundamentals! You’ll want to keep an eye on the price too – you don’t want to end up forking out too much just for some added touches.
And finally, if you’re still not sure which bag you want to go for, here are our top three to help you decide:
Our top choice if you’ll be camping in cold conditions is the Brown Camping McKinley sleeping bag and, with a temperature rating of -30°F, it’s easy to see why. We like the little stash pocket, and it’s super durable and comes with a lifetime warranty too – what’s not to love?
Our top pick for couples is, unsurprisingly, the Sleepingo Double Sleeping Bag. We love how lightweight this bag is despite its whopping size, and how cool is it that you can unzip it into two singles?
It comes with two little pillows, is waterproof to boot, and, at this price, it’s an absolute steal.
But what’s our absolute favorite? Well, it has to be the WINNER OUTFITTERS Mummy Bag which is, surprisingly, also the cheapest adult bag on our list.
We love the colors and the simple, no-frills design, and it’s so lightweight and compact it’s the perfect companion for summer backpacking trips – go on, you know you want to…
