CamelBak Chute Water Bottle
The Camelbak Chute is a popular water bottle for everyday use. You have a few styles and lots of colors to choose from, so jump in and decide. View Latest DealThe Chute is CamelBak’s take on an outdoor water bottle. Sure, some of you might prefer the newer, high-tech ones that will flash a glowing light whenever it’s time to hydrate, but they aren’t really the best choice for some tougher conditions. The Chute, on the other hand, was built to accompany you on all of your off-road adventures.
Obviously, it will fit into the side pocket of any CamelBak pack. There are actually three types of the Chute that you can choose from, and we’re going to take a detailed look at all three.
First I’ll tell you what’s unique about each type of the Chute water bottle, and then I’ll show you what all of them have in common.
Model | Sizes | |
---|---|---|
CAMELBAK CHUTE (ORIGINAL) | 3 sizes: 25 oz, 32 oz, and 50 oz | |
CAMELBAK CHUTE MAG | 5 sizes: 12-50 ounces | |
CAMELBAK CHUTE STAINLESS STEEL | 4 sizes, 12-40 ounces |
There are three basic types of the Chute water bottle, not including the myriad of different designs. In this section, we will take a look at the individual features of each of the types, so that you have a good overview of what you are getting for your money.
The Original Chute water bottle is available in a wide variety of sizes and colors. There’s even CamelBak’s signature HOD print – Hydrate or Die. There are three sizes to choose from – 25 oz, 32 oz, and 50 oz.
The original Chute features a plastic ring that holds the cap attached to the body of the bottle at all times. It’s a pretty useful thing, but it can also get really annoying so it’s a good thing that the plastic is removable.
In addition to that, there’s a little spot in the handle where the cap fits perfectly, with or without the plastic. You can just pop it in there, and it won’t hit you in the face while you are drinking.
Plus, it fits really tightly there, so there’s no chance that it will fall off – especially if you don’t remove the plastic ring. On the other hand, if you do remove the plastic ring, there is a possibility that the cap could fall off in the dirt, and that you could lose it.
The Chute MAG bottle comes in 5 sizes, ranging from 12 to 50 ounces. There is also plenty of color variations to choose from since there are about 12 different colors that are currently available. Just keep in mind that not all sizes are available in the same colors – and the extra tough, Hydrate or Die print is reserved for the 50-ounce bottle.
The MAG in the name stands for Magnet – this version of the Chute bottle features one magnet in the cap and one in the nook. This allows the cap of the bottle to stick to the nook when it’s opened up and ensures that it won’t snap and hit you in the face while you are taking a sip.
The system works really well – the cap will stay in place regardless of the position of the bottle. Plus, that also makes this the perfect bottle for camping, hiking, and similar outdoor adventures. Because the cap stays attached to the bottle at all times, there’s no way you could drop it in the dirt or lose it. And I think that’s really amazing!
One thing to note is that you can upgrade your old, regular Chute bottle by just buying a new cap. The MAG cap can be purchased alone, and it’s half the price of an entire bottle. If you ask me, upgrading to the magnetic cap system is 100% worth it!
The insulated stainless steel bottle is probably the champion of the Chutes. For one thing, it’s the only bottle that will retain the temperature of your drink – up to 24 hours for cold drinks and up to 6 hours for hot drinks. And you get to choose from 4 sizes, ranging from 12-40 ounces.
Now, if you are anything like me and rarely leave the house without a hot coffee in your hands, then this is probably the best purchase you can get. Or if you just like to drink tea on the go – and it’s definitely going to come in handy in the upcoming winter months. While all your friends are drinking stale, lukewarm water, you can cozy up with a hot coffee or ice-cold water, and make them all jealous!
Another great thing about this bottle is the fact that it’s made of stainless steel – you don’t need to worry about any nasty chemicals, since it’s much safer. And the double-walled steel will prevent the forming of any condensation on the outside of the bottle, meaning that you can just throw this in your backpack. And you won’t have to worry about anything spilling, which is priceless.
This version of the Chute also features a magnetic cap, which is 100% BPA, BPS, and BPF free. I think the only downside to this bottle is that it’s hand-wash only. You can’t just put it in the dishwasher, so it does require more maintenance than the other Chutes.
All three of the Chute bottles feature some shared designed characteristics. These mostly impact their convenience of use, and that’s what we’ll check out in this section.
Each of these CamelBak bottles has an angled spout. This provides you with an ergonomic drink interface that is just much easier to drink from than a regular water-bottle spout. Additionally, the angled spouts on the Chute bottles also deliver a higher flow of water, but without any sloshing or spilling.
All of the Chute bottles have a handle. It’s designed so that it is comfortable and easy to carry with just two fingers so that you don’t have to ever worry about accidentally dropping the bottle.
Also, the handle is pretty wide, which also means that you can easily attach a carabiner to it. Which you would then attach to the body of your backpack, and wouldn’t have to carry the bottle in your hands at all. And that’s really practical.
There’s nothing worse than when a water bottle has a really narrow mouth opening. Not only is it a nightmare to clean them, but it also means that you can’t get anything inside them.
With the Chute bottles, you can remove the entire top cap. And once you do that, you are left with a pretty wide hole, which is actually awesome. Cleaning it is a breeze, and you can easily get ice cubes and pieces of fruit even inside it. Overall, this is one of my absolute favorite features of these bottles, simply because it makes them a lot easier to use overall.
Since the Original and the MAG are both made of plastic, there are a few things that these two share, but the stainless steel bottle doesn’t. So, let’s check those out.
Bisphenol A (and S and F) is a hazardous chemical often found in plastic bottles. It has been linked to numerous health issues, ranging from hormonal imbalance to breast cancer. So yeah, it’s a good thing that all the bottles are 100% free from these nasty chemicals. Just like other Camelbaks and Contigos on the market.
Keep in mind though that even when the manufacturer state that a certain plastic bottle is BPA-free, that does not mean that it is completely safe. You need to look for ones that are also BPS and BPF free, just like the Chute bottles.
Obviously, this only refers to the Original and MAG bottles, since they are the ones made of plastic. Oh, and remember – the chemical has nothing to do with that plastic taste of water that you will often get with cheap bottles. Bisphenol is actually pretty much undebatable that way, which makes it even more of an inconvenience to deal with.
*Note: The stainless steel Chute is also 100% Bisphenol-free. Bisphenol is only found in plastic water bottles.
One of the main hassles with plastic water bottles is that not all of them are dishwasher safe. Which is not something we’re used to – especially in 2018. And since sticking your hand through the narrow throat of the bottle is practically impossible, it means that they are extremely had to clean.
But both Chute plastic bottles are dishwasher safe, which is awesome. You can just throw them in the dishwasher with the rest of your dishes, and they’ll come out 100% clean and bacteria-free. And that’s one of the main reasons why the CamelBak Chute is a great water bottle to pick up!
For best results, you should always detach the cap completely from the body of the bottle before putting them in the dishwasher.
The Chute water bottles come in three versions – the basic Chute, the bottle with the magnetic cap, and a stainless steel bottle that will do a great job at retaining the temperature of your drink. All of them are pretty inexpensive – especially for CamelBak bottles.
My personal favorite is the stainless steel Chute. I drink a lot of coffee, so being able to always have hot coffee with me is something I’m not going to pass upon. But also, the fact that it can keep your water ice-cold for 24 hours is pretty impressive and could be a life-saver during summer hikes. It’s the bottle that I picked up for myself, and I haven’t looked back since!
The Chute MAG is your second best option if you’re looking for a dishwasher-safe plastic bottle. The cap with the magnet inside it is really an awesome design feature – probably something you never knew you needed until you tried it out. So definitely try it out – it’ll be the best decision you ever make.
The plain Chute is always a safe choice. But, I personally wouldn’t go for it, simply because the other two have so much to offer. However, it is the only version of the Chute that can be purchased in a myriad of collegiate designs, so there’s that. If you want to cheer on the home team at a collegiate game, the Chute bottles are a slick and awesome way to do so!
You can check out the prices of these bottles on Amazon. And you can see all the different colors and sizes that they come in, so good luck choosing just one!
