About Db
The Db company initially launched under the Douchebags name back in 2009. At that time, their original name was chosen by the community, and the owners went with it because it was funny and ironic. But eventually, they decided to change the name and that’s how Db was born.
The company has been around for more than a decade, and during this time they have gotten quite a few awards for their luggage. Db is best known for its customized travel bags, particularly its luggage for sports equipment.
The company is Scandinavian, but all the luggage is manufactured in factories in China. Db works closely with its partners to ensure that all the luggage is manufactured according to its high standards and sustainability principles.
Db Ramverk Luggage
Db Ramverk luggage is the brand’s collection of hardside suitcases. There are three distinct suitcase types in this collection, and I will focus on the standard Ramverk luggage in this review. The other two are Ramverk Pro, which is a zipperless suitcase with two TSA latch locks, and the Ramverk Front-access, which features an external zippered compartment.
Size & Color Variety
The Ramverk luggage is available in five different colors, so it shouldn’t be too hard to choose one color you like. The suitcase is available in a classic black color, as well as a few brighter options that are a better fit for people who prefer colorful luggage.
You can choose from three different sizes for Ramverk luggage – carry-on (21.6”), medium check-in bag (24”), and large check-in bag (31”). These are standard luggage sizes, and one thing worth noting is that the carry-on is small enough that most international airlines will accept it inside the cabin. Materials & Durability
Ramverk luggage is made from polycarbonate, and approximately 70% of the PC used in the construction of the suitcases is recycled. The main fabric used inside the luggage is polyester, and it is 100% recycled. It’s always a good thing when a brand uses recycled materials in the manufacturing process because it shows that they are serious about their sustainability efforts.
Polycarbonate is one of the best materials for hardside luggage and it is often used by premium and high-end brands. The material is lightweight, flexible, and has excellent impact resistance, which is essential for good hardside luggage.
It takes a lot of effort to crack a polycarbonate shell, and it rarely happens with normal wear and tear. So, the Db Ramverk luggage is very durable and should last you a long time.
TSA-Approved Locks
The Ramverk suitcases are all equipped with a standard TSA-friendly combination lock. It secures the zipper of the main compartment so that you can have some peace of mind when traveling. The lock is easy to set up and you can choose whatever combination you want for it.
But that’s not all you need to know about Ramverk’s TSA locks. The Pro version of the suitcase is zipperless with two TSA-friendly combination latch locks for maximum security. Also, if you go for the version of the luggage with an external compartment, you should know that it is not possible to lock the zipper of that compartment.
Ultra Silent Wheels
The Db suitcases feature Japanese Hinomoto wheels, which are some of the best spinner wheels used in the manufacturing of luggage. Db is not the only brand that uses these wheels, and they’re quite common in high-quality suitcases.
They’re double spinner wheels that roll smoothly and silently, for maximum ease of maneuvering.
Telescopic Trolley Handle
All Db suitcases come with a customized telescopic wheel handle. It is height-adjustable and can be locked in three different stages, so it should be easy to set it to a comfortable height for you.
Also, the wheel handle is textured for better grip. It’s ergonomically designed so it feels comfortable in your hand and you don’t get fatigued easily after you’ve maneuvered the luggage for a while.
The Interior
The Ramverk suitcase features a fully lined interior with double-zippered dividers. One divider has zippered pockets on either side, for easy organization of your smaller belongings. There are two mesh pockets on the inner side of the divider and one flat zippered pocket on the outer side of the divider.
It’s worth noting that you don’t get any other pockets inside this suitcase. The flat pockets on the dividers are great for smaller accessories, but if you want to go a step further and divide the contents of the luggage by days or outfits, you will need to get your hands on some packing cubes.
The Hook-Up System
The Hook-Up system is one unique feature of this luggage and a good selling point for getting into the entire Db ecosystem. All the suitcases feature hook-up points on the front of the shell, and you can use them to attach other Db bags to the exterior of the luggage. This is super convenient for organization and easy access at the airport, and it’s definitely a selling point for me.
Value for Money
The Db suitcases are quite pricey, so are they really worth the money? Well, that depends on what you’re prioritizing in your ideal luggage.
These suitcases are high-quality, there’s no doubt about that. They’re made from premium materials and have all the features you would expect from high-end luggage. However, I must point out that there are numerous other brands that also manufacture excellent polycarbonate suitcases at a lower cost, and include a bunch of other features with their luggage.
One thing that did disappoint me about the Db luggage is that you have to pay extra for packing cubes and even a laundry bag. They’re charging more than 340 Euros for a carry-on suitcase and they want you to pay an extra 20 Euros for a laundry bag. That’s a big downside for me.
Warranty & Customer Service
Db offers two types of warranties; a limited lifetime warranty (up to 20 years) to all their Db Black customers who purchased luggage in 2022 or later, and a 2-year warranty for everyone who is not a Db Black customer.
Becoming a Db Black customer is simple and you just need to sign up on their website. It’s worth it for the extended warranty, but I must point out that the warranty only covers manufacturing defects. If you receive faulty luggage or something malfunctions without an apparent reason, you should be able to make a warranty claim.
But if the suitcase gets damaged because of airline misuse or just due to regular wear and tear, Db won’t do anything about it.
What about Db’s customer service? Well, it’s a mixed bag. I did find a couple of dozen people who were extremely dissatisfied with Db’s customer service, but then again the people who were happy with their products did not even mention the customer service in their reviews.
Most people are complaining about the fact that it takes really long for them to reply and that it’s very hard to get an actual human being to talk to.
From what I’ve gathered, if you want to quickly get hold of Db’s customer service, it might just be best to leave them a negative review on Trustpilot because they reply to all of those and try to contact the unsatisfied customers to fix the issues.
Db Luggage Review: Is It The Right One For You?
Db luggage is sleek, stylish, and very functional. If you’re looking for high-quality hardside luggage, this is certainly an option you should be considering. But, it all comes down to the price point and whether or not you can afford this luggage.
If it’s too expensive for you, then just don’t buy it. There are loads of other brands that manufacture similar suitcases and while you won’t get identical features, you will get very similar quality and performance.
On the other hand, if this luggage is within your price range and you’re just wondering whether or not it’s worth the money, I’d say it is, especially if you don’t plan to purchase just one suitcase. It’s kind of like with Apple’s ecosystem; sure the iPhone is a great standalone device, but it’s even better when you get the AirPods and a MacBook and they all work together.
