Materials & Durability

Materials

The Julbo Fury Sunglasses are built from some of the top materials that sunglasses can be made of, and for good reason, as they need to survive life in the outdoors at speed.

The frame on these sunglasses is made from a polymer that is both tough and shock-absorbing, making them ready to survive anything from tumbles off your mountain bike to taking a pile of snow in the face while skiing or snowboarding.

The lenses on these sunglasses are made from polycarbonate rather than glass, which is the only other option. Polycarbonate lenses are the go-to choice when it comes to optics of adventures as they are shatterproof and both impact and scratch-resistant.

Another great thing about polycarbonate lenses is that they provide 100% UVA and UVB protection and they can be made very thin even with a heavy prescription.

Durability

julbo fury durabilityNow that you know about the awesome materials that make up these sunglasses, how do you think the durability is?

I am terrible at looking after sunglasses. I drop them, leave them lens down on tables, and they are never in their case.

Well, this kind of behavior is totally fine with these sunglasses! They are very hard to scratch, hard to snap, and if you take a dive while biking down a mountain, these sunglasses will check if you’re ok, as chances are they will be fine.

From a safety point of view, their shatter-proof lenses are a great addition when it comes to eye protection. The last thing you need are chunks of glass coming out your sunglasses when being adventurous, and this will never happen with these.

Fit & Comfort

Fit

If you have ever tried to wear sunglasses under a helmet, then you will know how hard it is to find a good pair that fit you and sit under your helmet nicely.

Well, the Julbo Fury Sunglasses have solved this issue. They sit right under a helmet with ease and don’t jiggle around or collide and get in the way.

In terms of how they fit on your face, they also hit the nail on the head, so to speak.

They are wide sunglasses as is required for activities like skiing but they don’t make people with narrow faces look strange, they are molded to the face just right.

Comfort

The hardest part of finding sunglasses that work with a helmet is comfort. Usually, the arms are pushed into your ears due to the pressure of the helmet and life becomes painful pretty quickly.

The Julbo Fury Sunglasses come with an Air Link Temple System which is a two-part elastomer shock absorber at the end of the arms on the glasses.

These allow the arms to work with a helmet and be comfortable plus they won’t tangle in your hair or pull anything around.

In addition to the Air Link Temple System, the nose bridge padding on these sunglasses is a flexible shock-absorbing grip. This means you will feel zero pressure on your nose and they stay in place even if you’re sweating a lot.

Overall, you’re going to struggle to find a better-fitting and more comfortable pair of sunglasses that works with a helmet.

The design of the Julbo Fury Sunglasses removes all the issues so you can focus on adventures and not on painful ears and slipping sunglasses.

Lenses & Clarity

Lenses

The Julbo Fury Sunglasses come with a few different lens options: Spectron 3 CF lenses or Reactiv Performance lenses.

Now the Spectron 3 CF lenses are about $80 more affordable but they don’t do quite as much as the Reactiv Performance lenses.

The Spectron 3 CF lenses allow 12% light transmission meaning they are perfectly suited for areas with a lot of light, like skiing down the side of a snowy mountain.

These lenses also come with a mirror on the outside which is incredibly important in order to protect your eyes from reflected light from snow and water. But, these lenses are not photochromic like the Reactiv Performance lenses.

The Reactiv Performance lenses are quite incredible as being photochromic, they automatically change their light transmission based on light intensity.

The Reactiv Performance 0-3 lenses will actually be totally clear when in the dark and move up to 12% light transmission when they are in high light intensity.

This means you can wear your sunglasses from dawn through to dark and always be able to see what’s going on. Riding down a mountain in the dark? They will be clear. Skiing at midday? They are super dark and the mirror adds extra protection.

Clarity

The optical clarity through both the Spectron 3 CF lenses and the Reactiv Performance lenses is excellent.

The lenses, as you can see from the pictures, are huge and provide excellent coverage. This gives you a panoramic view through them, almost as if you were wearing no sunglasses at all.

The extra coverage is also excellent for eye protection and managing wind while you’re going 40km down a mountain. They wrap around your entire face pretty much, so you’re covered from a vision and protection standpoint.

Overall, the lens design along with their clarity and coverage provide you with excellent optics to enjoy your adventures.

Plus, the convenience of the Reactiv lenses is unparalleled as you can wear them from night to day and not need to take them off or have your vision suffer in any way.

Function & Performance

Function & Performance

When it comes to function and performance, it’s Julbo Fury Sunglasses pretty hard to find anything wrong with them.

When it comes to helmet compatibility, the Air Link Temple System, flexible shock-absorbing nose grip, and their fit make riding with a helmet and sunglasses about as comfortable as possible.

The lenses deliver incredibly clear optics through a panoramic view and no matter which lens option you choose, you know you’re getting excellent UV, air, and particle protection for your eyes.

The function and performance benefits of the Reactiv lenses are off the charts, as you can not beat the convenience of having one pair of sunglasses that changes their light transmission to match the light in your current environment.

Being able to ride with the same glasses from dawn to dark is something that you just can beat in a function & performance view.

Value For Money

When you first see the price of the Julbo Fury Sunglasses, you might think that they are a little expensive.

But, if you look at the market for sports performance sunglasses, like fishing sunglasses, for example, they are on a par price-wise.

Also, the incredible performance benefits and the long-lasting durability that come with these sunglasses mean that chances are you’ll have them for a good 10 years.

If you think about them as an investment over time, working out at about $25 a year for the most expensive option, this delivers value for money every step of the way.

Rating

The Julbo Fury Sunglasses have done exceptionally well on our rating system, getting an awesome score of 90/100, which is rare.

Usually, we can find some things that aren’t so great about a product, like in all our other reviews but these sunglasses deliver across all categories.

If you had to pick an issue, it would be nice to be able to choose a polarized lens option but considering these aren’t made for watersports, polarization isn’t really necessary.

Overall, these are a solid pair of sunglasses and perform awesomely across the board.

Verdict

Our overall verdict on the Julbo Fury Sunglasses is that they are an awesome pair of sunglasses for anyone who loves being active in the outdoors.

These are particularly awesome for skiers, snowboarders, mountain bikers, and anyone else who wears a helmet and needs to wear sunglasses at the same time.
