Matador Pocket Blanket 2.0 Review (Light & Compact)

Have you ever been out on a hike, or on a family day out and wished you had brought a blanket with you? Or, you have one, but it’s way too big, bulky, not waterproof…you get the point.

Well, lucky for us, Matador have solved all these problems with their Pocket Blanket. In fact, this product was so successful in version 1.0, that their company is founded on it. Now they have the new and even better version 2.0.

So, if you are after a super-compact (like an iPhone 5), carry anywhere blanket that you will love the minute you get it, this is the product for you.

Size & Weight

I think I already went on about this, but this blanket is super light-weight: 3.8oz. That is lighter than a deck of cards, and about the same size. Crazy, right?

You can actually squeeze this thing into your pocket with no problem. So, even if you are heading down to the beach for a quick dip, you have no excuse not to take something to sit on. I know, you will probably throw it in the glove box or your go-to bag for picnics, but it can fit just about anywhere.

And in terms of actual size to sit on, it fits two if you are lying down, and up to four for sitting, so you can share with friends! yay!

Material & Durability

I actually have a few blankets for picnics, but always leave them at home. They are either too big, too heavy or can’t be used everywhere.

There is nothing worse than a wet blanket – just the other day I was at a park for lunch with friends and the grass was wet, and my friend had a small blanket – but it was not waterproof. So, our butts got wet after 10 minutes!

This is not a problem with the Matador blanket. It’s waterproof – awesome, huh. But, it’s also puncture-proof. Even if you are out hiking and it’s a bit rocky, you don’t have to worry about rips! So, we had to find a bench, which was nearly impossible as it was really busy. If only I had my Pocket Blanket, right? Now I will have to have one in my desk drawer at work!

Other Handy Features

Ok, so it’s a nice size for 2-4 people, fits in your pocket, and is made of smart materials. Is there more? Yes!

Stakes and pockets for keeping blanket in place

It also comes with handy metal stakes, tucked out of the way, but ready to use when you are out on a windy day. And if you are on the beach, that won’t work, so they have added little pockets on the corners to fill with sand. Smart! The stakes themselves are also heavy enough to act as small weights in light winds.

The blanket itself also comes with its own pouch – but as you know, getting something to fold back into a pouch is always a nightmare. That’s why they put the fold pattern on the back. Just fold in half, again, again….until it’s the size of the pouch (which is stitched onto the blanket so you can’t lose it). Easy peasy!

Our Overall Impression

There is not much to dislike about this blanket. It solves all the problems of a conventional blanket (weight, size, waterproof, durability) and it can be thrown in just about any bag, pocket, or glove box.

Of course, if you want a super-soft, plush and comfy blanket to relax on – then this is not the blanket for you. But then again, that would take up 10x the amount of space and probably not be waterproof.

And, this is not just any cheap Chinese import either. It is a smartly designed, long-lasting blanket that overcomes many of the more “standard” blanket’s shortcomings.
