Materials and Treatment

The Altvia backpack is made from 140-denier 100% recycled nylon. This material is very tough and durable, and it performs extremely well in rugged outdoor conditions.

Nylon is one of the most popular materials for backpacks and other luggage, mostly because it is very strong and flexible. It would take a lot of effort to rip or seriously damage the backpack, which is exactly what makes this pack such a great option for rough conditions.

Also, the exterior of the backpack is coated with a PFC-free DWR (Durable Water Repellent), for good performance in wet weather. Even the interior of the backpack is coated with PU, so even if the exterior does get a little soaked, the contents of the bag should remain dry.

It’s possible to adjust the shoulder straps with a single pull on the webbing strap when you’re wearing the pack, allowing for quick and easy adjustments even when you’re on the move.

Hip Belt and Sternum Strap

The hip belt and sternum strap are two very important features, especially on the larger versions of this backpack. It’s worth noting that only the 14-liter version doesn’t have a padded hip belt, but all the bigger backpack sizes do.

The hip belt is padded and covered with breathable mesh for premium comfort. It’s also possible to adjust its length, so you can get the best fit. The hip belt should be tight, but not so tight that it cuts into your hips.

All four backpacks have a hydration sleeve inside the main compartment. The sleeve can double as a laptop sleeve when you’re not using it for hydration, and it also provides additional storage and organization capabilities when it’s not storing a hydration reservoir.

Additionally, the two larger backpacks also feature a small zippered pocket at the top of the compartment, for easy organization of any smaller items that could easily sink to the bottom of the bag.

Hip Belt Pockets

Only the 14-liter version of the backpack doesn’t have a hip belt with pockets – all the bigger packs do. They’re small pockets that can fit just the essentials, but they’re extremely convenient for hikers and people on the go since they allow you easy access to things without having to take off the entire backpack.

External Attachment Points

All versions of the Patagonia Altvia backpack are equipped with external attachment points on the front panel. These are stretchy loops that allow you to secure hiking poles or ice axes to the front of the backpack – a feature that is very common in high-end hiking backpacks.

On the two smaller backpacks the loops interfere a bit with the bungee cords, but on the bigger backpacks, they are on the sides, allowing access to the entire front pocket.
