Materials And Water Resistance

The Solyte DLX luggage is made from Polyester weave material. That’s the main material for the body of the luggage, but it’s worth noting that it’s not the only material you will find on the exterior of the suitcase. The Solyte cases feature rubber on the corners, which increases their impact resistance and protects them from any damage in transit.

Polyester is a great material for suitcases and it’s one of the most common materials used in the manufacturing of luggage. It’s lightweight, tough, durable, and water-resistant, for the best performance in various environments. The fabric is also treated with a water-resistant coating, for the best performance in wet weather.

It’s worth noting that the cases are not entirely waterproof, so you want to avoid getting the suitcases fully wet. The contents will stay dry in rainy weather but submerging the suitcase entirely in water is never a good idea.

These suitcases are very sturdy, but I still wouldn’t recommend them for air travel. The 20” case makes a great carry-on, but the larger bags aren’t quite as sturdy as standard hardside suitcases. If you fly frequently and you do not want to deal with a destroyed suitcase ever, hardside luggage is just tougher and more durable.

Spinner Wheels

The Samsonite Solyte DLX luggage line is equipped with double spinner wheels. They’re smooth rolling and easy to maneuver, partly thanks to the height-adjustable wheel handle.

The wheels on this luggage can roll 360 degrees, meaning you can wheel this suitcase around however you want. You don’t have to tilt it to get the wheels rolling, and it’s entirely possible to just wheel it alongside or even in front of you.

The wheels are very sturdy, and they should remain so for quite a while, barring any unfortunate encounters with baggage handlers. They perform best on smooth airport floors, but they are tough enough to handle rolling on bumpy concrete and other outdoor terrain.

The Handles

The Solyte DLX suitcases are equipped with top and side grab handles, as well as a retractable wheel handle for easy maneuvering. The wheel handle is height-adjustable and it locks into position with the push of a button. It can be locked in several different heights, ensuring that most people can adjust this luggage to their personal preferences.

The grab handles are on the top and side and they’re very sturdy. They’re rubberized for improved grip, which makes it easier to pick up the suitcase no matter how heavy it is.

Main Compartment

The main compartment is truly the star of the Solyte DLX luggage. It’s spacious, expandable, and equipped with plenty of smaller pockets for easy organization.

One of the highlights of the main compartment is the Wetpak pocket. It’s made from waterproof plastic and it’s designed for either toiletries or wet clothes – anything that has a possibility of leaking and dripping all over the other things in the compartment.

There’s also a smaller zippered pocket just above the Wetpak, and it’s great for the smaller accessories. The main compartment features an additional zippered pocket inside, as well as convenient tie-down straps that keep the contents in place. It’s worth noting that the 29” suitcase has two extra open pockets on either side of the Wetpak, and they’re just the right size to hold a shoe each.

The Solyte DLX luggage also features smart fix buckles, which is an excellent feature that should be standard in every single suitcase. It’s designed to keep the tie-down straps out of the way while you’re packing, and it just makes the entire process so much smoother and more convenient.

In addition to all that, it’s also important to note that the main compartment has expandable capacity.

External Pockets

One of the best things about softshell suitcases is that they’re usually equipped with multiple external pockets, allowing you to quickly stuff all the things you forgot to put inside the main packing compartment.

The Solyte DLX luggage has two zippered external pockets on the front panel. The smaller pocket is just the right size (and position) to hold your passport and boarding pass, or any other items you want to have easily accessible at all times.

The larger pocket can fit more items, so it’s great for all the things you remembered to pack last minute. It can hold some smaller laptops, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend keeping a laptop in the front compartment, since there’s no padding or impact-resistant features to protect that laptop from damage in transit.

The external pockets are excellent for organization. They allow you to separate and organize your belongings, keeping certain items more easily accessible than others, even if the only luggage you have is a 20” carry-on suitcase.

On top of all that, the smallest Solyte suitcase also features a zippered compartment on the side. It’s just below the USB charging port and it’s designed to hold a power bank and a phone, plus a few other items.

Additional Features

The Solyte DLX luggage is equipped with quite a few unique features that make it such a popular choice. One of those features is the smart fix buckle system that keeps the straps out of the way when packing. The others are explained in more detail below, but it’s important to note that these features are found only on the 20” carry-on spinner suitcase.

Stack It Sleeve

Traveling with more than one piece of luggage can be challenging, which is why it’s great to see a sleeve on the back of the carry-on suitcase. It allows you to stack the carry-on on top of a bigger suitcase, making it much easier to travel with multiple pieces of luggage.

The sleeve is in the back and it fits perfectly over the retractable handle of the larger Solyte DLX suitcases. It should fit over the handle of other suitcases as well, as long as it’s the standard double-barrel wheel handle.

USB Charging Port

The Samsonite Solyte DLX carry-on suitcase is equipped with a USB charging port that allows you to charge your phone on the go. A power bank is not included in the purchase, but you can use any power bank you already own.

The suitcase has a zippered pocket just below the USB port, which will easily fit a power bank and smartphone of any size. This feature is very convenient for travelers, especially those who don’t always remember to charge their phones before traveling. You don’t have to look for outlets at the airport and you certainly don’t have to carry a bulky power bank in your hand, just to get your phone to charge.

Samsonite Solyte DLX Review: Final Thoughts

Should you get the Samsonite SoLyte DLX luggage? It depends on what you’re looking for in the best luggage for you.

The Solyte DLX suitcases are excellent softshell cases. They’re made from tough and water-resistant materials, they’ve got multiple internal and external compartments, expandable capacity, spinner wheels, and a height-adjustable wheel handle. The carry-on is feature-packed, with an additional USB charging port and a luggage sleeve in the back.

However, the bags lack a TSA-friendly lock, which makes them less than ideal options for checked baggage. There’s also no dedicated laptop compartment on any of these suitcases, and you would need to purchase an entirely different (underseat) bag from the collection if you wanted an option with a laptop sleeve.

There are many more pros than cons to the Solyte DLX luggage, and the quality construction and performance outweigh all the cons. The only scenario in which this luggage might be underwhelming is if you’re specifically looking for checked bags for air travel. Other than that, the Samsonite Solyte DLX luggage is definitely an option worth considering and excellent value for money.
