Camping without a pillow, we have all been there and it sucks, doesn’t it? Trying to roll up a down jacket and stuffing it with some t-shirts for extra support tended to be my plan instead of lugging around a heavier space consuming pillow in my pack.
I would end up not sleeping well, having a crooked neck every morning, and it generally made my camping experience a little less good than it should have been. It’s not worth it and with so many great camping pillows on the market, having to make your own is a thing of the past.
One of the best camping pillows on the market is, without a doubt, the Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow. This amazing pillow combines comfort, durability, and support in a very lightweight and small packed size.
Join me in this Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow Review so that you can find out all the details of why this should be your camping pillow of choice on your next adventure!
The first questions I always ask myself when buying outdoor gear are, what is it made of and how long is it going to last?
There is never any point in buying something that is going to break within a year, so let’s see how the Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow does when it comes to its materials and durability.
The Aeros Ultralight Pillow is made with a tough but silent internal air chamber fitted with a high-quality valve on the bottom which is then covered with 20D soft stretch-knit polyester.
This combination of materials creates a lovely pillow that is incredibly reliable, easy to use, and a delight to sleep on.
The polyester is soft and snuggly against your face, the chamber stays as inflated as your make it, and the valve makes adjusting firmness incredibly easy.
The Aeros Ultralight Pillow has excellent durability and so long as your treat it kindly, it should last you at least 3 years or more of consistent adventures.
That’s pretty good going and it shows just how great the materials used are and how excellent the build quality is.
The only thing that might damage your Aeros Ultralight Pillow beyond repair is washing it in a washing machine and/or drying it in a dryer.
If avoid this, the Aeros Ultralight Pillow will have you sleeping comfortably for years to come.
The pillow also comes with a lifetime guarantee so if anything did happen to it, you can get a fresh one for free in most cases.
Let’s face it, if a pillow isn’t comfortable and doesn’t give your head good support while you sleep, chances are you are not going to use it.
The whole point of a pillow is to make your night’s sleep comfier, so let’s see if the Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow does just that.
The Aeros Ultralight Pillow is about as comfortable as an inflatable pillow can get and this is thanks to the super soft 20D soft stretch-knit polyester that you lay your head on.
It is so soft and such a pleasure to have your face against it that it blows all other inflatable pillows out of the water.
The polyester layer is quite too thick which provides a larger barrier between your head and the air chamber which helps with comfort a lot.
In addition to all this, one side of the Aeros Ultralight Pillow is slightly elevated compared to the other meaning it cradles your head and holds it in position. This does help but there is still some movement that is impossible to avoid in inflatable pillows.
The Aeros Ultralight Pillow also features a scalloped bottom edge that centers the pillow around your shoulders no matter what sleeping position you are in.
The Aeros Ultralight Pillow comes in two sizes, the regular is quite small and doesn’t offer much room for movement but it does fit inside the hood of your sleeping bag with ease.
The larger version is more comfortable but harder to combine with a sleeping bag.
When it comes to head support, the Aeros Ultralight Pillow stays inflated to the level you set it at and it will remain that way throughout the night.
Overall, the comfort of the Aeros Ultralight Pillow is pretty excellent for an inflatable and it is very manageable when out camping.
But, the comfort does not compare in any way to a stuffed pillow that doesn’t inflate, so bear that in mind and don’t expect it to be like sleeping at home.
If your camping pillow is a nightmare to use chances are you are going to stop using it, which means it is not worth buying. Is the Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow easy to use? Let’s find out!
The Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow is an incredibly easy pillow to use and it is much easier to use than pretty much every other inflatable pillow on the market.
All you have to do is remove it from the stuff sack, open it out, open the valve lid, and blow three breaths inside the pillow and it is full. How quick is that?
Once full, you can then adjust how rigid it is by pushing the button in the valve that slowly releases air so you can find your ideal level of hardness.
The valve releases air very slowly so you can fine-tune it down to a T without any worries or having to re-inflate.
Deflating it quickly is an absolute breeze too and takes less than a minute. Once deflated, it is quick and easy to fold it up and get it back into your stuff sack.
While the Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow is very easy to use as an inflatable, it is not easier to use than a synthetic pillow which you simply pull out of your bag and then put it back in the morning, so bear that in mind.
When you are carrying all your gear from one campsite to the next every once counts and every inch of volume in your pack is precious.
The last thing you need is a heavy, bulky pillow taking up all the room, luckily the Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow doesn’t do either.
The Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow weighs just 2.1 ounces which means you will barely even notice that it is in your backpack.
It is a very lightest inflatable camping pillow but it is not the lightest on the market. That being said, the others don’t compare when it comes to comfort and for the sake of less than an ounce, there is nothing to complain about here.
When packed into its stuff sack the Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow is 14.2 x 10.2 x 4.7 inches in dimensions which equates to about 0.5 liters of volume.
This means that adding the Aeros Ultralight Pillow isn’t a big deal and what it offers more than makes up for the space consumption. It is incredibly convenient to bring on travels and long camping trips into the wilderness.
But, it is not the smallest inflatable camping pillow out there when it comes to packed size but it is better across the board.
The Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow costs $39.95 which is pretty awesome value for money considering what it brings to the table.
It’s comfy, works well, is easy to use, packs down small, is super lightweight, and it even comes with a lifetime guarantee. You are getting a great camping pillow for life for less than $40 here.
If you spend a lot of time traveling and camping, the Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow is 100% worth it as it will transform your sleep compared to using your rolled-up down jacket.
Scoring 80 out of 100 on our rating system, the Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow has done very well.
It excels when it comes to durability, materials, weight, packed size, and value for money but lost some points in the comfort and ease of use categories as synthetic pillows perform much better in those regards.
Overall, the Sea To Summit Aeros Ultralight Pillow is a very impressive inflatable pillow and it is perfect for anyone who camps out a lot in the backcountry or anyone who travels often too.
The minimal weight and size mean you can take it anywhere, the soft shell is comfy, it is easy to use, and it will last a lifetime. Plus, you will actually have a pillow to sleep on when camping out in the middle of nowhere.
It is, however, not the best choice for car campers or travelers who have the space for a fluffy down pillow in their bags, as those are way nicer!
