One of the biggest questions you might have when stuck with a pile of Marriot points, is whether you can transfer them to someone else or to a Marriott Partner.

After all, if you have thousands of Marriott Bonvoy points and can’t spend them, it can really hurt!

Can You Transfer Marriott Points?

Yes, you can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to another Marriott member, no matter what their relations ship is to you. You can also transfer Marriot points to a partner account like a Frequent Flyer account with an airline.

Below I will give you all the details on how to do both.

How To Transfer Marriott Bonvoy Points To Another Member

The simplest way to transfer your Marriott Bonvoy points is to another member of the Marriott Bonvoy program.

However, there are a few conditions of the transfer of points you need to be aware of:

  • You need both member’s Marriott Bonvoy® Membership Numbers ready
  • Both Marriott Bonvoy® accounts need to be in good standing
    • Have been opened at least 30 days prior
    • Had no qualifying activity for 90 days (see details here)
  • The minimum points transfer is 1000 points per transfer
  • The maximum points transfer is 100,000 points per calendar year (i.e. 1st Jan – 31st Dec)
  • Any given member can only receive a maximum of 500,000 points per calendar year

So, in summary, you can transfer your Bonvoy points to and from any account as long as you have not done anything to flag your account and you stay within the yearly and per transfer limits.

Marriott has simplified the process of transferring Bonvoy points to another member.

  • You have to call Marriott in order to transfer your points to another member
  • Have all of the details for both members ready when you call

Marriott partners with a whole range of American and international airlines. This means you can transfer your Marriott Bonvoy points to a partner airline and convert them into the relevant frequent flyer miles.

In order to transfer Bonvoy points to a partner airline follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Marriott Bonvoy account
  2. Head to the Transfer Points to Miles page
  3. Select the airline program you wish to transfer Bonvoy points to
  4. Enter your frequent flyer membership number
  5. Enter the number of points you wish to transfer (within the limits listed below)
  6. Hit Continue at the bottom of the form

Note: The name on both accounts – i.e. your Marriott Bonvoy and Airline Frequent Flyer accounts must match

Points To Miles Conversion Rates

Typically, Marriot gives you a 3:1 conversion from points to miles. This means that you can divide your Marriott points by three and that will give you the number of miles you get.
