There’s no denying that Canada Goose is one of the most popular brands for winter jackets. The quality and durability of their products are outstanding, meaning that their high price tags are usually justified. But it’s also no secret that they are really expensive, and generally out of an average person’s price range.
This is why we need to talk about alternatives. No fakes or copies, but other brands that still sell high-quality products, just at lower costs.
So, if you need a good, warm winter jacket but can’t afford Canada Goose, you’ve come to the right place. I will show you some of the best Canada Goose alternatives in this review (for both men and women), and I will start with the more affordable options, and move up to the more expensive ones!

We’ll kick off this review with one of the most affordable jackets you can find – the WantDo ski jacket. I actually did a more detailed review of their product line, so definitely check that out if you’re interested in the brand. Generally, they sell affordable jackets that tend to be pretty good.
One thing I feel like I have to tell you about the Ski jacket is to check out the prices of all colors options for your size. The Rose Red option is actually about $50 in all sizes, and that’s a really good deal. Especially considering just how warm this jacket is. The prices of the men’s options don’t really get that low, but the jacket is still affordable, with a price tag lower than $80.
This is a windproof and waterproof jacket. Which makes a lot of sense, since it’s supposed to be a ski jacket. Its shell is made from 2400D Polyester, and the inside is lined with fleece, including the inside of the hood. So yes, it is a really warm jacket.
It also has a ton of different pockets, as well as attachment points for your ski pants. The cuffs are elastic and they feature a thumb hole, which is super convenient in windy weather.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this jacket if your style is generally sporty. It would fit nicely into your closet, and you don’t have to worry about what you’re going to wear it with. But if you tend to dress up more often, then it’s not really the best choice for you.
The Gotham II is a great versatile choice for ladies. It is stylish enough that you can wear it every day, maybe even with some fancier outfits. But, it is also functional enough that you can wear it hiking or camping in the winter, and it is even warm enough for the mountains.
It is not the cheapest Canada Goose alternative you can find, but it’s certainly not ridiculously expensive. It is insulated with a mixture of synthetic insulation (Heatseeker) and goose down, so it is actually really warm. But, it’s still a short jacket, and it won’t really keep your bottom half warm.
One downside of the Gotham II is that it is only water repellent, so I wouldn’t advise wearing it in wet weather. The down insulation can easily get soaked, which will prevent it from doing its job and keeping you warm. But at least it is wind resistant.
This North Face jacket has two external zippered pockets and a single internal one. That last one is also media compatible, meaning that there is a hole through which you can pull out your headphones so that you can listen to music while your phone is in the pocket. Overall, I think this is a great Canada Goose alternative, but not the cheapest or the best one.
The North Face Thermoball jacket is one of my favorite jackets ever. Yes, you could say that I saved the best for last. :>
The Thermoball Triclimate is actually three jackets in one. It consists of two separate jackets that you could wear individually, or combine into a really warm and puffy jacket. So, even though the North Face is kind of expensive, you are getting great value for money.
The inner jacket is insulated, and it’s pretty lightweight and short. As such, it’s also a great option in the chilly fall days or early spring. The outer jacket, on the other hand, is actually a waterproof shell, so that one is a great option for rainy days. Basically, you would be able to wear this jacket all year round, so I think its price is pretty justified.
And when you zip up the two jackets together, you get a warm, insulated, and waterproof beast of a jacket. Both layers of the Thermoball feature several pockets, although not all of them are accessible when you’re actually wearing it as a single jacket.
North Face sizes range from S to 2Xl, and that’s decent. There’s also a good color variety – about six different options, and I have to say that navy blue is my favorite one. Overall, I think that this is definitely one of the best Canada goose alternatives you will find since it offers great performance, warmth, comfort, and versatility. And it’s still about three times cheaper than an average CG jacket!
The Daily Ritual is definitely of my favorite options for the ladies. For one thing, it’s such a classic jacket – can you really go wrong with a long black puffer? But also it’s super affordable – it costs less than $100, which is actually a really good deal.
It has a water-resistant shell that’s made from a mixture of Polyester and Nylon. The insulation in the jacket is PrimaLoft – one of the best synthetic insulations on the market. So, there’s really no reason to doubt the warmth of this jacket. And another thing that I really like here is the quality of the zippers. The Daily Ritual jacket features heavy-duty zippers, that definitely won’t break too easily.
It’s a mid-length jacket, so it should cover up the better portion of your thighs. Which does kind of limit your mobility. But, it does have a two-way zipper, so you can always undo the lower part of the jacket if you need a wider range of motion. It generally runs true to size, and it is available in sizes ranging from XS to 2XL.
One downside of this jacket is that it only has two pockets. And they are pretty shallow, so they’re not the best for keeping stuff in them. Additionally, there are two more things I want to mention – the cuffs are elastic and they will keep the draft out of the sleeves. And the hood has a drawcord that allows you to adjust the fit.
If you are looking for a long puffer coat, I definitely recommend this Columbia option. It’s really lightweight which isn’t that common with longer jackets – they tend to be loaded with down and pretty heavy. But, the Morning Light II features Omni-Tech lining, which does the most work in terms of keeping you warm, so it’s obvious why it’s so light.
The exterior of this jacket is made from Polyester and it has a water-resistant coating. Sizes of this jacket range from XS to XL, which is pretty standard. There is some pricing inconsistency with the jacket, but most options are still under $150. Which is not cheap, but is definitely doable – especially for such a high-quality jacket.
Since this Columbia coat is 35 inches long, it will limit your range of motion significantly. But the two-way zipper helps with that – if you feel the need for increased mobility, just pull up that bottom zipper.
There are only two exterior pockets on this jacket and I am a little disappointed by that. They’re great for warming your hands, but not so much for carrying your phone and wallet in them. Oh, and the Morning Light II features elastic cuffs, which do an awesome job at keeping the draft out and making the jacket sort of windproof.
The Pike Lake jacket is another great affordable option. It’s actually cheaper than some previous jackets I showed you, but that depends on the color and size you choose. It is generally priced at about $120, which is why I decided to list it in this position. But you can definitely get this for as low as $70.
This jacket features Omni-Heat – Columbia’s proprietary lining technology. The lining has miniature reflective dots, which are designed to retain body heat and keep you warm at all times. The catch is that this material is also breathable, so no matter how warm you get, you shouldn’t get sweaty.
Both the shell and insulation of the jacket are Polyester, which is fine – the lining does most of the work anyway. It is a water-resistant jacket, so you can wear it comfortably in snow and light rain. Additionally, the adjustable cuffs and hem help seal in your body heat and make it wind resistant as well.
It’s a pretty short jacket, so you will have good mobility in it. But it won’t do much, in terms of keeping your lower body warm. And there’s one thing I actually don’t like that much about the Pike Lake – there are only three total pockets on it. One interior, and two exteriors. So, not a lot of space for your on-the-go necessities.
If you’re okay with spending a bit more on a jacket, I recommend the Marmot Ithaca. It’s not really cheap, but it’s still reasonably priced, considering the materials and the overall quality of the jacket. One of the best things about it is that it is insulated with 700 fill power down – an extremely warm type of down insulation.
Generally, the higher the fill power of down, the warmer it is. Down with 350-500 fill power is what you find most often in winter jackets, even the ones that are really expensive. So 700 is actually amazing. That, in combination with the Polyester shell that’s coated with DWR (Durable Water Repellent), means this jacket can keep you warm dry in all sorts of weather. Well, maybe not when the temperatures drop below zero, since it is pretty thin.
It is short, so it won’t really keep your lower body too warm. But it does have a pretty high collar, which covers a small part of your mouth. The faux fur ruff on the hood makes the jacket a bit more stylish, but it’s still not the ideal option to wear with skirts and dresses, since it does look pretty sporty.
There are three external pockets on the Ithaca jacket – two zippered ones on the front, and a small snap pocket on the left sleeve. Also, there is a zippered internal pocket, so there are plenty of places where you can stash your on-the-go must-haves.
You can still wear designer if you want, and at a much better price! This Tommy Hilfiger jacket runs at about $80, which is an insanely good deal if you ask me. Especially considering just how expensive their stuff tends to be. And what’s even better is that you know beforehand what level of quality you can expect.
It is a short jacket, so is only going to keep your upper body warm. But you will have a great range of motion since it doesn’t restrict your legs in any way. This puffer jacket is made completely out of Nylon, which is one of the better materials for outerwear. It’s really durable, and it’s water-resistant even without any additional coating, so you can safely wear this jacket in wet weather.
There are a bunch of different color options, but there are even more size options! Sizes actually range from S to 4XL, including several tall and plus-size options. The jacket is generally spacious and runs true to size, so you can wear thicker hoodies underneath it and still feel comfortable.
It has a stand collar that’s lined with fleece, for increased warmth around your neck. There are also elastic storm cuffs that keep the draft out from the sleeves, as well as an adjustable hood. The only downside to this jacket is the inner pocket – it is really thin, so it doesn’t feel too secure. But, there are two additional external pockets with zippers that you can use for hand-warming or your stuff.
The CAT men’s parka is another great, affordable choice. The prices of this jacket actually vary depending on the color – the Graphite jacket is your cheapest option, under $80. The parka is made from Polyester, which is a sturdy and durable material. It’s not water-resistant by nature like nylon, but the shell of the jacket is coated to be water-resistant.
One thing I really like is the amount of size variety – something we don’t see that often in designer jackets. This parka actually comes in a regular and tall option, and the sizes range from S to 4XL. So, I think you can easily find one that fits you just right.
This parka is also wind resistant – it has a two-way front zipper, as well as double storm snaps that do an awesome job at keeping the draft out. The cuffs are also adjustable, and so is the hood – it features a drawstring at both ends that allow you to cinch in the hood to get it to fit tighter.
There is a lot of pockets on this jacket – about three internal and at least six external pockets. Overall, it is definitely one of the best choices for the gentleman – CAT is an established brand, and there’s really no reason to doubt the performance and durability of their products.
Just because you are not getting a Canada Goose jacket, doesn’t mean you should settle for anything that’s badly made. Whether you’re paying $100 or $1000 for a jacket, it should still be good enough to survive at least two-three winters, and keep you sufficiently warm while you are wearing it.
The materials a jacket is made of are a big part of its quality. But also just how it’s made – it needs to be stitched properly, the distribution of insulation needs to be even, and so on and so forth. It’s not as simple as using Nylon to guarantee a high-quality jacket.
Another thing to note is that most brands use the same, or at least similar, materials when manufacturing winter jackets. Only some of them have developed their proprietary technologies, and you don’t even see those in every single jacket from a brand. So, I will make sure to tell you exactly what you can expect from a jacket, in terms of its quality, performance, and durability, in every single mini-review.
Additionally, we will see a few jackets from North Face and Columbia here, both of which have developed their own technologies. With North Face, that is Heatseeker – synth-ethic insulation that they use in combination with down, to enhance the warmth of their jackets.
With Columbia that is Omni-Heat – lining with reflective dots that retain your body heat, all the while allowing the jacket to breathe. That’s why their jackets are incredibly warm, even though they’re ridiculously lightweight.
I can’t really be sure what you’re looking for, so I will try to show you several types of jackets. Parkas and short down jackets are generally the most popular choices for winter, simply because they are the warmest options.
Coats also tend to be pretty popular, especially among the ladies. And actually, wool coats are pretty much as warm as plain down jackets – wool is a great insulator, and it does a great job even when it is wet.
You should generally have a good idea of what you’re looking for before you start checking out your options. Otherwise, the variety can be confusing and overwhelming, and you’re more likely to wind up with a jacket you didn’t even want in the first place.
Parkas are the right choice for you if you’re okay with wearing long and heavy jackets. They keep you really warm, mostly because they also cover a part of your thighs, and just generally cover a larger part of your body. But they also limit your mobility when you’re wearing them.
Short down jackets can also keep you warm, especially if they are insulated with down with high fill power. But their warmth and protection usually end at your hips, so keep that in mind. At least they give you a great range of motion since there are zero restrictions on your legs.
I’ll also show you a couple of ski jackets, in case that’s what you’re looking for. But also because ski jackets are generally really warm and waterproof, and there are some seriously affordable ones. If you can see yourself wearing one on a daily basis, definitely check those out as well.
I’ll try to show you jackets with different prices, starting with some that are less than $100, up to jackets that cost up to $300 – so that there’s something for everyone’s budget and personal style.
Keep in mind that with brands like Canada Goose, you’re not just paying for the quality. You are mostly paying for that CG patch on your sleeve. It is the brand exclusivity that attracts people to buy those jackets, and what it means when you are able to wear one yourself. But let’s not get into branding and human psychology right now.
What I actually mean by that is that you can get jackets that are made from similar materials and are of similar quality for much less money. I’ve worn jackets from thrift stores and no-name brands that were dirt cheap, but that have lasted for years. You just need to know where to look.
I will begin the review with the most affordable jackets, and I’ll put the most expensive ones at the end. Keep in mind that I will include brands like Columbia and North Face in the latter section, mostly because of their proprietary technologies.
And I think you should have a good idea of which section of the review is best suitable for your price range, based on order and brands featured in it.
I initially wanted to show you just two top options – one for women and one for women. But I decided to go with two options for the gentlemen – an affordable one, and my true favorite.
Ladies first, so let’s start with the Daily Ritual jacket. I think it’s definitely the best option – it is affordable, warm, and has such a classic design. You can pair it with pretty much anything – jeans, leggings, skirts, and even fancy dresses.
It is insulated with PrimaLoft, which is actually the leading synthetic insulation in outerwear. The only downside is that it only has two pockets, but I don’t think that’s a reason not to buy it.
The top affordable option for the gentlemen is the Tommy Hilfiger puffer jacket. And I am as surprised as you to use TH and affordable in the same sentence. This is exactly why you should get it – it’s a high-quality jacket, with a water-resistant exterior and fleece-lined collar.
Plus, it’s pretty spacious, and you can easily wear it over thicker clothing. And I don’t think I even have to tell you that it just looks really good.
My absolute favorite is the North Face Thermoball Triclimate Jacket. But it’s also the least affordable Canada Goose alternative, so I had to give you another choice. This is a jacket that you can wear multiple different ways because it actually consists of two separate jackets.
It is incredibly versatile, and you can basically wear it all year round. It is warm, comfortable, waterproof, and windproof, and definitely the jacket you should get if you are okay with the price.
And those would be my top three choices. But honestly, any one of the jackets featured in this review is a good and affordable Canada Goose Alternative. If you saw something you liked, head over to Amazon to check out the prices and color options.
