Timberland White Ledge Hiking Boots
Timberland's White Ledge Hiking Boots are great entry-level boots that are also stylish. They are not overly heavy or cumbersome but offer enough support on the trail. View Latest DealHiking boots are an absolute necessity for anyone who spends a lot of time in nature. And with so many different brands to choose from, finding just the right pair can be quite the task. One of those brands is Timberland, and today we will check out their White Ledge hiking boots.
Whether your old Keens are nearing their demise, or you are just looking for a new addition to your collection of hiking boots, you shouldn’t overlook Timberland. They make top-notch, stylish footwear, and their hiking boots are no different.
If that sounds good to you, then you’ll love what you’re about to read. Scroll down for a detailed review of Timberland White Ledge boots – both for men and women!
These Timberland boots are available in both a men’s and a women’s version. And there aren’t any differences in functionality between the men’s and the women’s; just some construction differences – the women’s shoes are naturally more narrow.
You can get the boots in about 6 different colors, and the sizes range from 7 (men’s) to 15, including half-sizes. Sizes of the women’s boots range from 5 to 11, and that also includes half sizes.
So, there is plenty of variety to choose from, both in terms of colors and size. And they are very true to size, and they should fit you perfectly in the size that you usually wear.
The upper part of these hiking boots is made of full-grain leather. So, they should be plenty comfortable – after you break them in a little bit. Leather boots are usually stiff right out of the box, so expect to spend some time breaking them in. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you exactly how long it will take to break them in. I went through dozens of reviews, and some people reported that there was zero break-in time, while others complained that it took about a month to break them in.
So, fingers crossed that your pair is comfortable right out of the box! :>
The leather of these boots is treated with waterproof properties during the tanning process so that it becomes fully waterproof. In addition to that, the White Ledge boots are also seam-sealed, which means that not a drop of water will be able to penetrate them. Your feet will always stay dry, even if you full-on walk through a creek!
The outsole of the boots is fully made of rubber, and it features multidirectional lugs for enhanced traction. But that’s not all; these booties are also equipped with Timberland’s B.S.F.P. system. That is an acronym for:
– Brake
– Support
– Flex
– Propel
That should give you a good idea about the traction you can expect from the White Ledge.
As for the support, they don’t disappoint there either. They have two pairs of flex grooves – those are horizontal grooves on the shoe’s outsole that are supposed to promote flexion of the forefoot. On these booties, the primary flex grooves are just behind the ball of the foot, while the secondary ones are in the toe area.
That perfectly corresponds to the natural flexion of the foot – just think of your feet bend when you are walking.
So, to put everything in layman’s terms, these shoes are designed to bend naturally along with your foot, all the while making sure that you stay exactly where you wanted. Even the slipperiest terrain will not be an issue with these Timberlands.
They come equipped with an EVA dual-density footbed. That alone should provide you with plenty of comfort and arch support. But, if you usually need more support in hiking boots, then it’s a good thing that this footbed is removable. So just take it out and replace it with your favorite one.
But, keep in mind that the EVA footbed is also perforated. That allows the air to circulate inside the boot so that your feet don’t get sweaty. So if you do choose to replace it, try to replace it with a breathable footbed, if you want to experience the same level of comfort.
And for reinforced comfort, the tongue of the boot, as well as the collar are heavily padded. This is particularly important because in most ankle boots these tend to be very uncomfortable parts, particularly if you tie them really tight. And they tend to cut into your ankles, but you absolutely don’t have to worry about that either with these hiking boots.
The lacing system on these hiking boots is a combination of D-rings and speed-hook lacing. Some people aren’t a fan of this system, but I personally am.
It’s not just that the amount of time you need to lace these up is reduced, but they are also much more reliable than traditional lacing systems – or rather eyelets. I always think of my particularly old pair of converse that has maybe 2 eyelets remaining – all the others fell out.
Even if you are not a big fan of this system, you’ll get used to it pretty quickly. And it basically means that you won’t ever have to undo the D-hooks. Just undo the speed-hooks at the top and you’ll be able to take them off. And then when you need to put them on again you just have to tie the top two hooks and you’re done!
Additionally, all the hardware on the boots is rustproof, which really goes hand in hand with their waterproofness. Kudos to Timberland for really thinking about every little detail.
If you ask me, I would say yes they are, and particularly if you are looking for waterproof hiking boots. But since they are cut somewhat low, they don’t have as much ankle support as some other hiking boots. So, I would call these entry-level hiking boots. They are perfect for some light hiking (on all terrain types), for running around town during winter, or for dealing with the rainy spring season.
However, if you are looking for taller boots with a lot of ankle support, I’m afraid these aren’t the ones for you. In that case, I would recommend you check out the Sorel Conquest boots. They are the better choice for some really difficult terrain. :>
But if you are just getting into hiking, or need a pair of really good, high-quality regular hiking boots, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t consider these Timberlands. So head over to Amazon and see how you like their price.
