Airalo is world-renowned as one of the top German eSIM providers. The company offers an eSim card for more countries than most other prepaid eSIM card providers.
Airalo offers a very reliable and fast connection in all countries including Germany. You can choose from their affordable Hallo Mobile German eSIMs:
You can literally pick the plan that suits you and they are all super affordable. Buying, installing., and activating your data plan is also super easy.
Holafly is another of the German eSIM providers and they specialize in offering unlimited data plans all over the globe.
Their connection is reliable, the speeds are very fast, and you never have to worry about using too much data or running out of data either.
You can choose from unlimited data eSIMs such as:
You can even opt for a Europe-wide eSim for the same prices as the German eSIMs.
The prices are also very affordable, especially for unlimited data, but the one downside is that you can not use the eSim for data tethering.
Update: As of July 2023 you now get a phone number with German eSIMS which includes 60 minutes of free calls.
Nomad offers European and German eSIMs. Their eSIMs for Germany are a bit cheaper than their Europe-wide ones though.
You can choose a data plan to suit you that is valid for either 7 or 30 days with
While these plans are quite affordable per GB, they are not the cheapest German eSIM.
With Nomad eSIMs, you’ll get a reliable internet connection and fast service. You can also use your phone as a hotspot, but with no unlimited data options, you will have to be careful or your data usage.
The Orange Holiday Europe eSIM gives you coverage in Germany and the rest of Europe so you can continue using it as you travel. It is one of the best eSIMs for Europe!
It also comes with a French phone number, unlimited free calling and SMS in Europe, and inclusive SMS and call minutes for outside Europe too. So you do get it all with this eSim.
The connection is fast and reliable, installing the eSim is quick and easy, and you can use all the data for tethering too.
But, this eSim only lasts for 14 days and its cost per GB (if you don’t include the calls and SMS) is a lot more expensive than others.
The Orange Holiday Zen eSim is another good option if you are looking for data, calls, and SMS with an eSim that works in Germany and the rest of the EU too.
For $29.90/14 days you get
While this might seem like a deal, and it is for free calls and SMS, it is not so great when you only look at the data. Plus it only lasts for 14 days
Ubigi is a rather new eSim provider but they offer an excellent plan for Europe that includes Germany.
They have a number of plans that you can use all over Europe and you can choose from
The price per GB is pretty affordable, the connection is quick and reliable, and it is easy to buy and install.

The Telekom Germany eSim is the only eSim for Germany provided by a local German network, Telekom Germany, aka T-Mobile.
You can only get this eSim if you are already a T-Mobile customer and I can not get any details about their data plans. All I can guarantee is that you will have a good network connection in Germany.
There are a ton of benefits to getting an eSim in Germany.
1. You do not have to go and buy a local sim card when you land, you can just activate your eSIM before you land in Germany so you are online immediately when you land.
There is no need to queue, sign up, or learn the top-up procedure for a new German sim card. Plus, there is no need to swap sim cards either, so you won’t lose your sim from home.
2. You can also continue to use your home sim phone number to receive calls and texts while you use the eSim for mobile data only.
3. eSIMs give you way more affordable mobile data than using data roaming on your home sim card.
Buying an eSim takes minutes and all you need to do is install it onto your phone and activate it to start using it, they are so convenient.
Once activated, you will have a data connection so you can communicate, navigate, book tickets, and do anything else you need to make your trip easier.
The only local mobile operator offering eSims in Germany is Telekom Germany (T-Mobile). It is always recommended to use a local mobile operator as you will get the best network connection.
Sadly, you have to already be a T-Mobile customer to get an eSim with Telekom Germany. A lot of the other networks use Vodafone for their eSims in Germany but Ubigi actually uses T-Mobile, so you can use the Telekom Germany network via Ubigi if you want to.
That being said, Vodafone is also a reliable network that is great all over Europe.
There are a lot of devices that are compatible with eSims and these include new smartphones and tablets.
If you have a relatively new iPhone or Android phone then chances are it will have an eSim. The same goes for a new tablet like an iPad. Any iPhone newer than the iPhone XR is eSim compatible.
To check, just dial *#06# and press call. If your phone is eSim compatible then it will come up with an eSim unique identification number (EID).
How much data you will need in Germany depends on how much data you usually use. You can ask your smartphone to give you a data usage report so you can match your eSim for Germany with enough data.
On average, people usually use around 5GB per week, but some go up to 15 GB. In some cases, going for an Unlimited Data eSim is the best plan.
You have to buy your eSim online so you can buy it anywhere in the world so long as you have a WiFi connection.
Simply browse to the eSim provider’s website, choose the eSim plan you want to buy, and buy it. You will then receive an email with all the details of how to install and activate your eSim.
To install and activate your eSim, simply scan the QR code you received after buying your eSim. Then follow the instructions for installation, it usually involves saying yes to installing and activating the eSim after you have scanned the QR Code.
