Heading to Montenegro and searching for a prepaid eSim with easy data and fast connectivity? We have found all the best Montenegro eSims for you!
At A Glance: Best eSim Providers in Montenegro
Montenegro is a small country, but you won’t want to go without a great data plan. Whether its a few gigabytes for short stays, to unlimited eSIM data packages for those streaming binges in the hotel room
This guide features our handpicked choices of the top eSims from our recent trip through Montenegro.
Maya is one of the more flexible prepaid eSims for Montenegro, with lots of different packages from 1GB to unlimited data.
I stumbled upon them only recently and have been adding them to my recommended eSim providers ever since. I even used them while I was in Montenegro.
Here are their 30-day plans in Montenegro:
If you run out of data, you can just renew or top up as you go along on your trip too, which is super convenient. And you can even have a running monthly plan if you are staying for a longer period, like for work.
They get 4.6 on TrustPilot, so people have been very happy with them. They offer some great features many others neglect like unlimited data with a hotspot/tethering and a fair use plan as well. And they use One/Telenor, which is reportedly the best mobile provider in the country.
Airalo is perhaps the best known Montenegro eSIM provider because they have been around for so long. Using their App makes life super simple as you can not only load the eSIM directly on your phone that way, you also get lots of great alerts when you are running low on eSIM data.
Their plans are usually on the smaller side, and become cheaper as you get more data. But they don’t do unlimited, so go with Maya for that.
Like Maya though, they use the best network in the country called One (formerly Telenor).
Airalo has three eSims for Montenegro:
So, if you are looking for a simple eSIM plan that is easy to monitor and top-up I would not go any futher than Airalo. They are also cheaper than Maya per GB for the three plans that they do offer. And they don’t restrict you from sharing your connection.
We are a little newer to aloSIM but they are definitely competitive.
They are actually one of the cheapest Monetengro eSIM providers on this list, coming in a $3 per GB on the largest plan. So, they are definitely worth checking out.
aloSIM also use Telenor/One so you know you will get decent connections and speeds in Montenegro. But like the rest of the eSIM plans in this list, there is no phone number or texts.
We have done a review of them just recently which you might also want to read.
Esims can get a little confusing with Nomad because they often have two types of plans with the same size. One mixed carrier plan (prices shown below) and a more expensive best single carrier plan – this time with One in Montenegro.
So, Nomad has some of the cheapest prices, but the more expensive plans are with the best carrier. So you can decide what you want. If you are in a city, then it usually does not matter, but Montenegro is sparsely populated and we found a lot of spots in the mountains where reception was patchy.
Nomad’s prepaid eSIM plans for Montenegro include:
I have used Nomad plans a lot while traveling in Europe and they are definitely reliable and easy to use. It is just a matter of finding the cheapest eSIM for you. And as always, I recommend doing everything via the App so that you can monitor your usage and top up when you need to.
Holafly’s Montenegro eSim is a little disappointing compared to many of their other plans. Why? Because they don’t have unlimited data in the country and they only have one plan.
Their Montenegro eSIM is for 6 GB for 15 days. It costs $44 which is a little on the pricey side too at $7 per GB.
So, if you are in Montenegro, I would go with one of the other providers in this case.
From my extensive experience traveling with both eSIMs and SIMs, there are lots of reasons to get an eSIM, especially in Montenegro:
The list goes on. eSIMs are really just the same as going digital with your eBooks or streaming services. It is simple, cheap, and flexible.
AND you can land in Montenegro and have data ready to go. We just crossed the border in our campervan and we were up and running with data in about 2 minutes. That is all it takes to activate an eSIM!
Both of the big telco operators in Montenegro offer eSIMs locally. They are One Montenegro (formerly Telenor) & Crnorgoski Telekom. But, you have to go to their stores once you land and get one, just like you do with a SIM card.
That is obviously far from convenient, and you will have to take some ID or a passport with you when you do it, which many if you would rather avoid I am sure. Honestly getting an eSIM for Montenegro before you go is the best bet in almost every case.
Generally, all modern mobile phones have eSIMS and some iPhones like the iPhone 14 only have eSIM.
Any phone from the iPhone X onwards is eSim compatible and it is similar with Android phones.
