Getting an eSIM before you get to Bangkok is a great way of ensuring you stay connected while you are visiting.
Gone are the days of struggling to get data or having to pay crazy roaming fees. ESIMs make life so much easier and cheaper and I will never go back to the old days, that’s for sure.

Airalo has two affordable Bangkok eSIMs worth checking out. They are renowned as an eSIM provider and their coverage and connection speeds around the world are excellent
Airalo’s Dtac Happy Tourist eSIM for Bangkok are:
If you are traveling further than just Thailand, the consider buying one of the Asia Plans as well. Airalo offers between 1 GB (7 days) to 100GB (180 days) and cover countries like: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, China / Hong Kong / Taiwan, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, and South Korea.
Maya Mobile has competitive prepaid eSims for Bangkok too.
If you are looking for just a few GB instead of 50GB or unlimited, then their eSIM plans are really appearling.
All their plans run for 30 days, so there is no confusion and they allowe tethering/hotspots and include 5G too.
Here are their plans in Bangkok:
What I love about Maya is their plans are broad enough (1-10 GB or Unlimited) and simple to understand. And, at just $2 per day, the unlimited data eSim plan is quite cheap.
Holafly’s 99 days for $90 is cheaper per day or course, but you need to be hanging out in Thailand for 3 months to get that deal. (more on Holafly below)
Maya uses the top mobile networks in Thailand, instead of giving you dirt-cheap deals with garbage speeds. They use AIS & Dtac in Thailand with 5G where available.
Holafly is renowned for offering unlimited data eSIMs and they have some for Bangkok too.
Their eSIM packages are a little expensive compared to the competition, but I wanted to include them because they have such a variety of plan lengths. One of them may work out the cheapest for your trip.
Note: You get a 5% discount if use EXPERTWORLDTRAVEL at checkout
Also, keep in mind that Holafly’s Bangkok eSIMs don’t allow data sharing/ hotspots. So, if you have to work via your phone, it’s not going to happen with their plans.
Nomad is always worth considering when you want to get a Bangkok eSIM . They use a lot of the best mobile networks and have a big selection of plans. Sometimes too big.
In this case, they have five eSIMs for Bangkok to choose (30 day plans)
All cost between $1.5-2.5 per GB. The most reasonable is the 20GB for $30. So, they are definitely affordable.
Then they have their new Bangkok unlimited data plans:
UBIGI is a good global eSim provider but they are relatively new and don’t have the partnerships in place to get the more affordable prices other providers do.
Their coverage is good, and their connections are fast and reliable, but they are expensive, especially when it comes to their Bangkok eSIM coverage.
Ubigi has no Thailand specific eSIM plans, instead, Thailand is covered in a variety of Asian regional eSIM plans. So, if you are traveling further than Thailand, check them out.
Mogo is a great provider at first but the more data you use the slower their connection gets, which is a bit cheeky.
Their coverage is decent in Bangkok and setting up is easy with their eSIMs. But then again, it is easy with all the rest too.
Mogo is, unfortunately, expensive for their Bangkok eSIMs. Their lowest offering is
While these prices aren’t bad, they are still a long way off the unlimited data plans of the other providers.
There are a ton of benefits to getting an eSIM when you travel to Bangkok
Affordability:
Convenience:
Your own SIM:
Eco-Friendly:
An eSim is a physical card in your device instead of having to insert one like with a SIM.
Generally, eSIM works with high-end devices less than 3 years old. Devices like the Apple iPhone X and Samsung S20 are eSIM compatible. Here is a full list.
To check compatibility, dial *#06# on your phone and see if you have an EID number
You also need your SIM or phone to be unlocked by your provider for eSIM to work in your phone.
The best idea is to simply save data when you are traveling, so you also save money. Here are some tips from my experience traveling to Bangkok and other worldwide destinations while using an eSIM:
Do Not Activate Early:
Use Whatsapp, Telegram or Facetime:
Turn off heavy data use Apps
