Best eSIM for Sri Lanka in 2023 (Prepaid Data Compared)

Airalo

Airalo is a popular eSIM provider that offers data plans for more than 200 countries all over the world. They’re often one of the top three picks for an eSIM regardless of where you’re traveling, but their data plans for Sri Lanka are surprisingly limited. Airalo offers just two eSIM plans for Sri Lanka:

• 1 GB/7 Days for $7
• 3 GB/30 Days for $15

Although there’s not much variety, the eSIM plans are good value for money. Also, you get access to both Dialog and Mobitel, which are the two best network operators in the country so you can count on fast internet and reliable coverage.

Another reason to choose Airalo is because they have a great app that makes it very easy to track your data usage. If you run out of data, you can easily purchase a top-up either on the Airalo website or through the app.

Holafly

Holafly is usually a hit-or-miss provider. They’re known for either offering unlimited data plans, or very expensive plans with very little data. All of Holafly’s eSIM plans for Sri Lanka include unlimited data, and the durations and prices are as follows:

Holafly’s eSIM plans for Sri Lanka are surprisingly good value for the money, especially for travelers who are heavy users and expect to go through a lot of data during their trip. Additionally, if you purchase a Holafly eSIM, you’ll get access to Dialog, Mobitel, and Hutch networks.

Dialog and Mobitel are two top providers in the country; Hutch isn’t quite as good, but being able to access all three networks means you’re practically guaranteed coverage everywhere in the country.

The only downside of the Holafly eSIM is that you can’t set up a hotspot and share your connection with other travelers.

Nomad

Nomad has some of the most affordable eSIM plans for Sri Lanka, so they’re a great option if you’re on a tight budget and you’re looking for the cheapest data plans possible. You can choose from plans that are operated by Hutch or Truphone – Truphone plans are very expensive and not worth the money, but Hutch plans are super affordable:

Hutch is a decent network operator in Sri Lanka, but it’s not quite as fast or reliable as Dialog and Mobitel. Nonetheless, the Nomad data plans are great value for money and you should consider getting one of them if you don’t want to spend too much on a Sri Lanka eSIM.

One thing to note about Nomad eSIMs is that they must be activated within 30 days of purchase. If you don’t activate the eSIM yourself, it will automatically activate on the 30th day.

Maya

Maya Mobile is a reliable eSIM provider with options for more than 170 countries in the world. It has five different data plans for Sri Lanka, one of which is an unlimited data plan:

One great thing about Maya Mobile plans is that they’re all valid for 30 days. Also, you can choose the activation date for the eSIM before you complete the purchase, for effortless setup of your eSIM.

However, there’s no information on who your network provider would be in Sri Lanka. You could hit the jackpot and get Mobitel or Dialog, or you might be unlucky and get access to Airtel or Hutch.

I don’t think Maya Mobile eSIMs are among the top three options for Sri Lanka because they’re among the most expensive ones. Holafly is cheaper for unlimited data, and both Alosim and Nomad offer more affordable 30-day plans.

aloSIM

Alosim is a global eSIM provider with data plans for more than 170 countries in the world. This provider has some excellent deals on eSIM plans, and they can often compete with Airalo in terms of affordability and availability. Alosim’s eSIM plans for Sri Lanka are:

Alosim has the second most affordable eSIM plans for Sri Lanka right after Nomad, with the advantage of offering access to a better network operator. This provider allows you to connect to the Mobitel network, which is up there with Dialog in terms of availability and reliability.

Because of all that, Alosim is overall the best provider for a Sri Lanka eSIM, especially if you want to buy a data plan that’s valid for 7 or 30 days.

BNESIM

BNESIM usually offers the most variety of eSIM plans and Sri Lanka is no exception. This provider lets you choose from one-time, daily, and monthly plans. One-time plans don’t expire until you use up all your data, daily plans are active for 24 hours, and monthly plans are active for 30 days. In terms of pricing, monthly plans are the cheapest, and one-time plans are the most expensive.

Consider BNESIM only if you’re interested in one-time plans and you don’t really need a lot of data. If you can make a gigabyte of data last two or three weeks, you can definitely get your money’s worth from this provider.
